Ren Zhengfei
CEO of Huawei
Born on October 25, 1944 into a rural family where both
parents were school teachers, Mr. Ren Zhengfei spent his
primary and middle school years in a remote mountainous town
in Guizhou Province. In 1963, he studied at the Chongqing
Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

He then worked in the logistics service base of the

Shenzhen South Sea Oil Corporation. As he was
dissatisfied with his job, he decided to establish
Huawei with a capital of CNY21,000 in 1987. He
became the CEO of Huawei in 1988 and has held
the title ever since.
Facebook - Mark Zuckerberg:

• Mark Zuckerberg co-founded Facebook

in 2004, creating a social networking
platform that has grown into one of the
largest social media companies globally,
connecting billions of people.
IBM - Thomas J. Watson and Charles Ranlett Flint

• International Business Machines

Corporation (IBM) has a long history of
success in IT. Thomas J. Watson
transformed IBM into a major player in
the computing industry during the early
to mid-20th century. The company has
continually evolved and played a crucial
role in the development of computer
hardware and software.
Tesla - Elon Musk
• While Tesla is often associated with
the automotive industry, it has
made significant technological
contributions, especially in electric
vehicles and renewable energy.
Elon Musk, the founder, has been
instrumental in Tesla's success.

These success stories showcase the impact that visionary leaders and
innovative technologies can have on the IT industry, influencing not
only the business landscape but also shaping how people live and work
in the modern world
Introduction to Information Technology
"IT" typically refers to Information
Technology. Information Technology is a
broad field that involves the use of
computers, networks, software, and other
technology to manage and process
information.
It encompasses a wide range of activities,
including the development,
implementation, and maintenance of
computer systems, software applications,
and communication networks.
IT
• In a business context, IT plays an inportant
role in managing and storing information,
ensuring the security of data, and facilitating
communication within and between
organizations.
• It also includes areas such as cybersecurity,
database management, system analysis,
programming, and more.
• The term "IT" can be used to describe both
the industry as a whole and the specific
technologies and systems that organizations
use to handle their information and
technology needs.
What is a Computer?

A computer is an electronic device

that processes data and performs
various operations according to a set
of instructions called a program. It
can input, store, process, and output
data.
Computer works on given command
and gives result for user.
Computers can be classified into different
types, such as personal computers, laptops,
and supercomputers, each designed for
specific tasks and varying in terms of
processing power, storage capacity, and
capabilities.

Modern computers typically consist of

hardware components like a central
processing unit (CPU), memory, storage
devices, input devices (e.g., keyboard and
mouse), and output devices (e.g., monitor
and printer).
Computer Hardware
Computer hardware refers to the
physical components of a computer
system.

These components work together to

enable the computer to perform tasks
and process data. Here are some
essential elements of computer
hardware:
1. Central Processing Unit (CPU):

Often referred to as the brain of the computer, the CPU is

responsible for executing instructions and performing
calculations.
Cooling Systems:
Fans, heat sinks, and sometimes liquid cooling systems
are used to dissipate heat generated by the CPU and other
components.
2. Memory (RAM - Random Access Memory):

• RAM is temporary storage that the CPU

uses to store data and program code
that is actively being used or processed.

• It provides quick access for the

processor, it loses its content when the
computer is powered off.
3. Storage Devices:

Hard Disk Drive (HDD): This is a non-

volatile storage device used for long-term
data storage. It stores the operating
system, software applications, and user
data.
Solid State Drive (SSD): Similar to an
HDD but uses flash memory for faster
data access. SSDs are becoming more
common due to their speed and
reliability
4. Motherboard:

• The motherboard is the main

circuit board that houses the
CPU, memory, storage
devices, and other essential
components.
• It provides the electrical
connections between these
components and allows
them to communicate with
each other.
5. Power Supply Unit (PSU):

• The PSU converts electrical

power from an outlet into a
form that the computer
components can use. It
supplies power to the
motherboard, CPU, and
other peripherals.
6. Graphics Processing Unit (GPU):

• The GPU, or graphics card, is

responsible for rendering
images and videos. It is crucial
for graphics-intensive tasks
such as gaming, video editing,
and 3D rendering.
7. Input Devices:

• Keyboard and Mouse: Common

input devices for interacting
with the computer
• Touchpad, Trackball, or
Touchscreen:
• Alternative input devices found
in laptops and some desktop
setups.
8. Output Devices:

• Monitor: Displays visual

output from the computer.

• Printer: Produces hard

copies of documents or
images.
Computer Software

Computer Software refers to a set of

instructions, programs, or data that
enable a computer system to perform
specific tasks or functions. It is a crucial
component that allows hardware
components to work together and
execute various operations. Software
can be broadly categorized into two
main types.
System software and Application software.

• 1.System Software:
• Operating System (OS): The operating system is fundamental software that manages
hardware resources and provides essential services for computer programs. Examples
include Microsoft Windows, mac OS, Linux, and Unix.

• Device Drivers: These are specialized programs that enable the operating system to
communicate with and control specific hardware devices, such as printers, graphics
cards, or network adapters.

• Utilities: Utility programs perform tasks like disk management, antivirus scanning, system
maintenance, and other essential functions to keep the system running smoothly.
2 Application Software:

Web Browsers: Software for accessing and navigating the internet, such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox,
Microsoft Edge, and Safari.

Entertainment Software: Applications for leisure and entertainment, such as video games, media players, and
streaming services.

Communication Software: Tools for communication, including email clients (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Gmail),
messaging apps (e.g., WhatsApp, Slack), and video conferencing software (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams).

Database Management Systems (DBMS): Software that enables the creation, organization, and management of
databases, such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, and MySQL.

Development Tools: Software used by programmers and developers to create, debug, and maintain software
applications. Examples include integrated development environments (IDEs) like Visual Studio, Eclipse, and
JetBrains IntelliJ.

Operating System Utilities: Additional software tools provided by the operating system to manage files, settings,
and system resources.
Networking Components

• Network Interface Card (NIC):

Facilitates communication between
the computer and a network.
• Ethernet or Wi-Fi Adapter: Enables
wired or wireless network
connectivity.
