UNIT 3
My predictions
Yesterday, I was thinking about my family’s future and how things would go from now for us, I wonder what
we will have done in many years’ time! I’m working as a journalist at “The New York times” so by the end
of 2020, I will not have written a book yet but an article for that newspaper I know I will have. If I keep
saving money, I will have been able to buy a small house or an apartment. I really want to have my own
place by that year! I will also have improved my driving skills by the end of this year because I want to get
my license in order to drive my new car.
I hope that by 2022, I will have been engaged with my girlfriend so by the year 2023, I will have got married
with her. I will also have learned how to cook by the time I am married. I don’t really like cooking but I
know I have to learn to. And if I talk about children, perhaps by 2024, I will have had my first baby.
By the year 2022, my nephew Rodrigo will have finished the second year of high school. And his sister, who
is a baby now, will not have started kindergarten yet. But she will have begun to have little conversations
with us. And we will all have learned how to make Sylvana feel better when she is crying.
By next year, my sister Cecilia will not have finished the university yet. But she will have made many
contacts to find a good job when she ends her career. And maybe by the year 2022 she will have met the
man who will become her husband.
My brother Alonso will have worked 3 years for the school he just started working for this year. And because
of this new job he will have started studying his master degree and made several new good friends.
I’m sure my mom won’t have got a pet. She says she likes animals but she doesn’t like to clean the mess!
By next year, my father will have been retired so I hope my parents will have taken the vacation they have
been postponing. Although everybody in the family wants to learn to play the piano, nobody will have
learned to do it because we haven’t started the lessons yet!

1) Answer the questions:

a) Will the writer have bought a car by 2021?

...........................................................................................................................................................

b) What will Rodrigo have finished by the year 2022?

...........................................................................................................................................................

c) What will Cecilia have done when she ends her career?

...........................................................................................................................................................

d) Will the writer’s mom have got a pet?
