The document describes an experiment to test the pH of various salt samples. Salts tested include sodium chloride, potassium nitrate, aluminium chloride, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, sodium acetate, sodium carbonate and sodium hydrogen carbonate. Their solubility, effect on litmus paper, and pH is observed and recorded in a table. The acid or base used to form each salt is also identified.

pH of Salts
Activity 2.14 Explanation
Activity- Collect the following salt samples – sodium chloride, potassium nitrate, aluminium chloride, zinc suplhate, copper sulphate, sodium acetate, sodium carbonate and sodium hydrogen carbonate (some other salts available can also be taken). Check their solubility in water (use distilled water only). Check the action of these solutions on litmus paper and find the pH using a pH paper. Which of the salts are acidic, basic or neutral? Identify the acid or base used to form the salt. Report your observations in the table given below
S. No. Salt Formula Solubility in Action on pH Acid Base
