Revision: Whole Numbers (Part 2)

Do these word problems. Show your working clearly in the space provided.

1. David bought 5 similar bracelets at a price of $2079 each. He paid for the bracelets in 15
instalments. How much did he pay for each instalment?

2. A baker bought 680 000 g of flour and packed the flour into 200 similar packets. He used
some flour and had 100 such packets left. He decided to repack the remaining flour into
packets of 5000 g. How many packets of flour did he have in the end?

He had 68 packets of flour in the end.

340 000 ÷ 5000 = 68
100 × 3400 = 340 000 He paid $693 for each installment.
The mass of each packet of flour is 3400 g. $10 395 ÷ 15 = $693
2. 680 000 ÷ 200 = 3400 Solutions: 1. 5 × $2079 = $10 395

Revision: Whole Numbers (Part 2)

Do these word problems. Show your working clearly in the space provided.

1. There are four times as many yellow marbles as green marbles in a box. If there are 48 more
yellow marbles than green marbles, how many marbles are there altogether in the box?

2. Grace arranges some plums in packets of 8 and some kiwis in packets of 4. After selling each
packet of plums at $2 and each packet of kiwis at $5, she earns $2516. If Grace sells 7 times
as many packets of kiwis as the number of packets of plums, how many fruit does she sell in
all?

There are 80 marbles altogether in the box.

She sold 2448 fruit in all.
5 × 16 = 80
= 2448
48 ÷ 3 = 16
68 × (28 kiwis + 8 plums) = 1904 kiwis + 544 plums
$2516 ÷ $37 = 68 48 green
(7 × $5) + $2 = $37 ?
2. (7 × 4) kiwis + 8 plums = 28 kiwis + 8 plums Solutions: 1. yellow
