Good morning, class! Good morning, Ma’am!

How are you today? Are you ready We’re all good Ma’am and we
for today’s discussion? are ready for today’s discussion.

Very good!
Before we proceed with our new lesson,
let us first recall what has been discussed
last meeting.
Who can recall our topic last meeting? (opens her mic and answer)
Yes _________, can you tell us what has Last meeting, we discussed
been discussed last meeting? about “Constructing a frequency
distribution table for grouped

In order for you to recall our topic last

meeting. I have here a frequency
distribution table. All you have to do is to
complete the table by solving the lower
limit and cumulative frequency.

Who can give me the value of lower limit

and cumulative frequency with the class
interval score ranges 26-30? (a student raises a hand)
Yes_____? (opens his mic and answer)
25.5 is the lower limit and 18 is
cumulative frequency miss.
Yes, very good
How about the lower limit and cumulative
frequency of the interval score ranges 36-40?
Yes______? (a student raises a hand)
(opens his mic and answer)
Correct ! Very good 35.5 is the lower limit and 38 will be the
cumulative frequency.

Next, What is the lower limit and

cumulative frequency of the interval score
ranges 41-45? (student raises a hand)
Yes_______? (opens her mic and answer)
The lower limit is 40.5 and the
cumulative frequency is 46 miss.
Very good!

For the last one, what is the lower limit and

cumulative frequency of the interval score

Yes_____? (opens his mic and answer)
The lower limit is 45.5 and the
cumulative frequency is 50 miss.
Correct! Very good!

I have here a Cross Word Puzzle. All you

have to do is to determine/ Guess the
correct word based on the given statements.

Please read and answer number 1? (opens her mic and answer)
Yes ___________. In mathematics, it is denoted as “f”
Correct! The answer is FREQUENCY. defined as the number of times the data
value occurs.
2. It divide a ranked data set into four equal FREQUENCY miss.
parts.

Who wants to answer for number 2?

Correct! The answer is QUARTILE. (a student raises a hand)
(opens her mic and answer)
3. It is the value that a function approaches QUARTILE miss.
as the input approaches some value.

Who wants to answer number 3?

Yes ___________.

Correct! The answer is LIMIT.

4. Data that have been organized and (opens her mic and answer)
summarized in tables. LIMIT miss.
Who wants to answer number 4?
Yes __________.

Correct! The answer is GROUPED.

5. Increasing by successive additions. (opens her mic and answer)
Who wants to answer number 5? GROUPED miss.
Yes_______?

Correct! The answer is CUMULATIVE. (a student raises a hand)

(opens her mic and answer)
Okay class, the words which you have CUMULATIVE miss.
formed from the crossword puzzle are
relevant to our lesson this morning. You will
encounter these words as we go on with our
discussion.

Class, At the end of the lesson you will be

able to Calculate a specified measure of
position for grouped data using quartile.

Class, our lesson for today is about Quartiles

for Grouped Data
Activity 2
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Now, let us understand what a quartiles for

grouped data is.

So, we will define the following words:

We have here the word GROUPED DATA.

What do we mean by grouped data? (opens her mic and read)
Please read the definition. Data that have been organized and
Yes ________? summarized in tables.
Thank You!

Next, we will define Quartiles.

From our past lesson, how will you define
Quartiles? (opens her mic and read)
Yes_____? Quartiles divide a ranked data set
into four equal parts. These three
measures are denoted first quartile
(denoted by Q1), second quartile
(denoted by Q2), and third quartile
Correct ! Very good! (denoted by Q3).

Next, we will define what a frequency is. (opens her mic and read)
The fact or condition of
Please read the definition occurring frequently.
Yes______? In Math The frequency of a particular
data value is the number of times the
Thank you ! data value occurs.

Next, we will define what cumulative is.

Please read the definition (opens her mic and read)

Yes______? Increasing by successive additions.

Thank you !

Next, we will define the class interval

Who wants to read the definition? (opens her mic and read)
Yes_______? The numerical width of any
particular class in distribution.

Thank you!

To solve for quartiles for grouped data we

need to construct the frequency distribution
table and we need to solve for the cumulative
frequency and the lower limit from the given
data.
Since we already discussed last meeting on how
to solve the lower limit and cumulative
frequency.

So, we have here the formula on how to solve

the quartiles for grouped data.

To solve quartiles for grouped data:

( )
kN
−F
Qk = L + 4 i
f
Where:
L = lower limit of the Qk class
N = total frequency
F= cumulative frequency before the Qk class
f =frequency of the Qk class
i = size of class interval
k = nth quartile, where n is equal to 1,2 and 3

To understand more on how to calculate quartile

for grouped data. I have here examples.
(a student raises a hand)
Who wants to read example number 1?
(opens her mic and read)
Yes ________?
Find the, Q1 of the height of 40
students of Grade 10 class.
Thank you!

Example 1
Find the, Q1 of the height of 40 students of
Grade 10 class.
Class Frequen Lower Cumulati

163-171 4 162.5 38
172-180 2 171.5 40
N= 40

So, we have here the table. As you can see the

values of the lower limit and cumulative
frequency are already given, since you already
know how to solve for that one.

So, now using the formula of quartile for

grouped data. We will solve Q1 .
