Introduction to CENTRON® Program Components

Defining CENTRON Meter Security Codes

The device security codes control the level of access to meter data that will be permitted
when communicating with a meter. Define the default security codes for your system using
the System Manager application. In the System Manager navigation tree, select Device
Security Codes | CENTRON. You can assign different security codes for an individual
meter when the device is initialized.

The Security Codes for each level should be unique.

The following table describes the level of access to the meter provided by each CENTRON
device security code.

Security Code Description

Primary Read/Write access–Provides unrestricted reading (uploading data)

from the device and writing to the device (programming or resetting
data).

Secondary Read-only access with Demand Reset—Access to the meter is

limited to reading information from the meter and resetting demand.
You can also access the Alternate display, reset the communication
time-out, and clear voltage quality data.

Tertiary Read-only access—Access to the meter is limited to reading

information from the meter. No operation that writes information to
the meter is available. This code can be used by other applications
that contact the meter, such as third-party applications.

Previous Security The last security code used to log on to the device. This code is not
Code programmed into the device.

Refer to the PC-PRO+ Advanced System User’s Manual for instructions for defining
Security Codes and other system options.

Creating a CENTRON Program File

Use the Program Editor application to create and edit program files. A program file defines
a specific meter configuration which controls the operation of the meter and the meter’s
display.

This chapter describes the processes of defining CENTRON Programming Options and
initializing CENTRON meters including the initialization prompt-for dialogs.

Initializing CENTRON Meters

During initialization, the meter configuration in the selected program file is used to program
a meter. Any existing data in the device is lost.

To initialize a CENTRON meter, log on to the meter using a baud rate of

4800, the factory default for CENTRON meters.

When you initialize a meter, you are prompted to enter device-specific information for the
individual meter based on the programming options previously defined for the device type.

For information about the Prompt-For dialogs, see Initialization Prompt-For Dialogs (on
page 24). Refer to Reconfiguring the CENTRON (on page 27) for related information about
reconfiguring the meter.

Selecting CENTRON Programming Options

Use the PC-PRO+ Advanced System Manager application to define CENTRON
Programming Options. Programming Options identify the site-specific meter information
that you want to be able to change for individual meters when you initialize devices.

You must have administrative-level security authorization to logon to the

System Manager application.

When you initialize a meter, PC-PRO+ Advanced presents a series of prompt-for dialogs
that allow you to enter the site-specific values for the individual meter. The items selected
on the Programming Options dialogs determine which system prompts are displayed when
you initialize a CENTRON meter.
