Oral Communication

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:

a. define articulation and modulation of voice,


b. differentiate articulation from modulation, and
c. perform a drill for articulation exercises.

III. Procedures

A. Preparation

Greetings.
Prayer.
Checking of Attendance.

B. Motivation/Review

The teacher will divide the class into 4 groups, each group will be given a
pieces of paper(letters encrypted), manila paper, glue. Using the letters, members
will join force to unlock the good characteristic that an effective public speakers must
possess. The group to finish the task will shout Principles of Speech Delivery.(It does
not matter if you’re the first to finish or not.)

C. Lesson Proper

Principles of Effective Speech Delivery


1. Articulation in speech is the ability to physically move the tongue, lips, teeth and
jaw to produce sequences of speech sounds, which make up words and sentences.
Articulateness in pronouncing the words and speaking with clear diction that
effectively transmits the message of the speaker.
It is highly important to know the correct way of saying a word, whether they
are familiar or unfamiliar.
Proper breathing techniques together with correct molding of sounds that
make up words contribute to efficient articulation.

2. Modulation is the ability to change your pitch, volume, tone, and pace of your
voice according to your purpose, content and audience.
Modulation can help you emphasize key points, express emotions, create
contrast, and avoid monotony.
If the Speaker’s voice is modulated, listeners will pay attention.
A microphone requires even more modulation as the amplifiers will resonate
voices further. But with or without a microphone, voices should not bombard our
eardrums.

D. Application/ Activity

Drill for:
a. Articulation : Smile Widely, Move your lips actively.

All the world’s a stage


And all men and women
merely players.

b. Modulation : Grab your partner. Read the following statement


using the four tricks for voice modulation. Then identify,
the correct trick to be used.

1. I am very excited to see you today.

2. Now I really want you to pay attention to this because this is


very important.

E. Generalization

Modulation is the ability to change your pitch, and volume of your voice while
articulation in speech is the ability to physically move the tongue, lips, teeth and jaw
to produce sequences of speech sounds, which make up words and sentences.

IV. Evaluation

Engage yourselves to this articulation drill, using step 1 and step 2.
