The document discusses two studies about the effects of physical exercise on mental health. The first study examines how limited exercise facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic impacted mental health and found that maintaining exercise improved well-being. The second study piloted an exercise program for mental health inpatients and found it reduced negative symptoms and improved well-being over three months but did not impact psychological parameters or illness severity.

In this study of Ai, Yang, Lin and Wan (2021) which focuses on generating some ways to be physically
active during the pandemic that has many restrictions in terms of facilities and other equipment that are not
available to use during the Pandemic. This study shows that Physical Activity can help us during the COVID-19
Pandemic in many ways, such as our mental health. they suggest that there are many factors that affects our
physical activity during these times, such as Quarantine, Self-Isolation, Lockdown and Social Distancing. They
also find out that Physical Activity type, Intensity and Frequency has a huge impact on this study. The major
contextual variables include exercise monitoring, support from family and friends and the place of residence.

In the study of Mazyarkin, Peleg, Golani, Sharony, Kremer and Shamir (2019) which focuses on the health
benefits of physical exercise program for people who has unstable mental health particularly, inpatients who are
not mentally stable in the mental health care system. The researchers found out that long term physical activity had
improved the negative symptoms of the patients, not the positive symptoms. The researchers later found out that
the empathic ability of patients who had 3 months of physical activity was highly improved than compared to the
experimental groups. The patients who exercised for at least three months shows improvement the overall mental
state of the patient but not their psychological parameter, the improvement of negative symptoms and the patient’s
empathy may only occur after a long term physical exercise activity.

In the study of Alexandratos, Barnett, Thomas, (2012) which focuses on the impact of physical exercise to
the mental health and the quality of life of people with severe mental illness, shows that exercise is a great
contributor to the improvement of symptoms such as mood, alertness, concentration, sleep patterns and psychotic
symptoms. They also found out that exercise can improve the quality of life through social interaction, meaningful
use of time, purposeful activity and empowerment.
