Gun Control in The US Compared To Germany
Gun Control in The US Compared To Germany
Hello,
Today I will be speaking about the gun control laws in the USA and Gun control in Germany,
and why the US should apply and implement german gun laws.
Points against US gun laws: The United States has very lenient laws for the possession and
use of firearms, this because of the second amendment, amendments are laws placed into
the USA's constitution, these laws are very important as they are national and come before
other laws.
This means that American citizens feel entitled to their right to bear arms. The current laws
in the USA is that any US citizen above the age of 18, can buy and use a firearm, this means
you can buy a 50 cal. Sniper rifle before you can legally enter a pub. These laws are very
outdated as the statistics imply. The United States has the most homicides by firearm in the
entire world. This year alone over 20 thousand people have died from gun related crimes in
the US. Dont you think that this is a problem?. In the rest of the first world, gun laws are
much more restrictive, this is good and is reinforced with the data, there are more homicides
from guns in the entire US than the whole of europe. This due to the fact any US citizen can
buy a gun as long as they are not a prior convicted felon. This can include people who are
mentally disabled/challenged for example a sociopath, these people should not be able to
bear firearms as they do not value human life and these people are most likely to murder or
cause harm to other people, however the united states still allows mentally disabled citizens
to possess guns, most homicides seen on the news are committed by sociopaths or
psychopaths. There are many flaws in the us to do with gun control but one main reason
people are against gun control is that they believe they are entitled to a mean of self defence
and to take the life of another human if they are to feel threatened by their presence, this
however sounds very backwards, as a lot of the time the main reason a person feels
threatened is by a gun being drawn or threatened from the second party. This means people
feel that they require a gun to protect themselves… from other guns, which can be
completely resolved by none of the 2 parties having a firearm in the first place.
Points for german laws: In germany guns can be beared by citizens, however only via strict
circumstances:
● You must be over the age of 18
● You must pass a gun licence test, similar to a driving licence, called a
Waffenbesitzkarte
● You need to provide a reason for you to possess a firearm EG. hunting, sport or self
defence if your job contains a threat or risk to your health IE a police officer or
bodyguard
● You must also undergo what's known as a reliability check, where your mental health
is tested, your past criminal history or any other attributes that may make them
suspicious or untrustworthy to authorities
Once you have gotten a permit to own and use a firearm, there are other laws to prevent gun
crime:
● A gun that is not in the hands of the owner or that is being transported, must be held
in a locked safe that is only to be opened by the owner, this is so the gun cannot be
lost or stolen and fall into the hands of a person who may cause harm.
● If an owners gun is stolen and that firearm was used to cause harm to another
person, the direct owner of that firearm is also accounted in the assault of the victim,
this is controversial however it has been placed into the legal system to assure gun
owners take the rules seriously and the gun can never be accessed by another
person.
● Ammunition for any firearm that is not currently in use must be stored separately from
the weapon itself. This is so that if one is lost (gun or ammo) the object is unusable
until they gain possession of the other, this is also to assure the gun is never loaded
and can misfire.
Reasons why the US should implement these laws: These set of gun control laws will highly
reduce the amount of homicides in the US as only trusted members of society will be in
possession, it will also assure the person using the firearm knows the risks, safety rules and
how to properly use the firearm without unwanted casualties. It is obvious this will help as
the stats and facts are there, if people really want their guns they should at least only be
given to people who may be trusted with these, this way both parties, pro gun control and
gun enthusiasts alike may come to an agreement in the US saving thousands of lives and
continuing hobbies and skills in professionals around the country.
Any questions?
