Self-Meditation
Self-Meditation is all about learning to just be, to still our energy, to shut down and quieten our minds,
to turn off our busy often over active mental chatter, and to tune out external influences as much as
possible. In essence, self-meditation is about tuning in to our inner world, it’s about being in a
heightened state of alertness being mindful of our consciousness, actively pushing that to one side to
access our subconscious. Self-meditation allows us to still our energy, it allows us to be completely
present in the moment, in the now, to consciously slow down and relax many of our functions whilst
we explore our internal world. It can be so difficult at first to learn to switch off, most of us lead such
busy lives and there isn’t often much time set aside as down time, time to just kick back and relax.
Even when we do, we seem to be surrounded by devices and electrical gadgets that monopolise our
time in a different way, all of which influence our energy.
For some people the thought of stopping, that is actually sitting still with no devices or outside
interference causes them stress, and this is even before introducing the concept of self-meditation.
We have gotten so good at being busy, that we have really forgotten the art of relaxation, of just sitting,
being still and just being. So, imagine how powerful it could be, if when we do actually stop, we create
some time within that period of relaxation for some self-meditation. Time to focus on ourselves, to go
within, time to get out of our own way to regroup, breathe and tune in.
Meditation is deeply personal; it is about experiencing complete alone time with ourselves. So many
people are afraid to do this, the idea of just being alone with their thoughts and emotions can feel very
overwhelming to them. When we meditate, we focus our intention in an inward manner to promote
calm, balance and peace within our lives. The act of meditating not only increases and promotes
personal and constructive interaction with our energy, but it helps us to tune into our vibrations and
our energy bodies which can assist us to remove dis-ease and balance our health and our mental and
emotional wellbeing. When we mediate, we open up to the amazing world of tuning in, tuning into our
auras, our physic abilities and the journey of our soul. There are so many varied philosophies and
ideologies on how to meditate, and sustain a trance state. Please note that there is no one correct or
perfect way to meditate. Everyone responds differently and will access a meditative state in a slightly
different way. When we meditate, we tune in and focus internally, rather than focusing externally as
we do in our normal day to day lives. When we create some quiet space to relax and close our eyes,
we are able to focus on our inner world, our inner voice, our deeply held beliefs, rather than being
subjected to our everyday distractions where we tend to be guided by external stimuli.
We are all so busy being busy that we often neglect to stop, down tools and nurture our souls. Our
inner world becomes smaller and smaller the more time that we spend exploring our external world
and what is going on around us, rather than looking within. Our inner or subjective world and our
external or objective world exist at the same time and share space within us. It is important that we
acknowledge and honour both of these aspects as we need to explore both polarities in order to truly
embrace and know our authentic selves. Meditation can help us to balance both, and to create
stability, harmony and joy in both.

Objective Polarity External focus, our outer world. Thinking sits here.
Negative Polarity. The conscious mind sits here.
Subjective Polarity Internal focus, our inner world. Stillness site here.
Positive Polarity. The subconscious mind sits here.
As previously mentioned, both of the polarity’s share space and exist together alongside each other.
You can’t have one without the other, so it makes sense to honour and embrace both. Meditation
serves to create space for internal focus, amplifying our subjective polarity, and creates the space to
tune into our other senses, the Chakras, Auras, Energy bodies and the Clair’s. The benefits of
meditation are well documented, and meditation is now prescribed by many medical doctors and GPs
as a legitimate way to calm anxiety, relieve stress, manage high blood pressure and combat the signs
of a busy and full life with little free time to unwind and relax.
The basics
• It is important to be comfortable and to actively create the right space in which to relax. So,
find a suitable comfortable space and ensure that you have removed all distractions.
• You may like to have some nature noises or relaxing music on in the background, this can really
assist the relaxation process.
• Initially, whilst still learning to meditate, limit the length of your meditation session to 10-15
minutes. At the beginning some people struggle to relax and feel frustrated so short practice
sessions often seem to produce the best results.
• Posture and body positioning are important. There are so many theories on the correct and
best posture to adopt for meditating. You need to work in a way that works for you and your
body. Try lots of different positions from sitting cross-legged, to sitting on a chair, to a recliner,
to lying down. Work with what you have available to you and in line with your bodies needs
and flexibility.
• Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Breath in relaxation and breath out any stress or
tension.
• Some individuals like to meditate whilst focussing on a personal affirmation or a chant that they
start repeating over and over again in their minds.
• Allow your mind to go where it will. Some people see images, feel body sensations or feel as
though they actually leave their bodies. Some people feel like they are sinking down into the
support whilst others feel as though they are floating. Some people report body dysmorphia

and others are not aware of their bodies at all. There is no one way or right way, there is only
your way.
• However, you choose to meditate, the understanding is that you will be still, that you will travel
within and explore your inner world.
There are so many wonderful benefits to meditating. It is a wonderful way to destress, unwind and
relax. When we are in a trance state, our blood pressure drops, our heart rate slows, we journey within
and in turn, this has benefits to our mood, emotions and overall wellbeing. Meditation allows for
unified consciousness; it allows individuals to get out of their own way to access the collective
unconscious. It allows the individual the freedom to journey within, to explore the colours and lights
and the feeling of floating and moving through time and space.
Guided Meditation
Guided meditation is when there is a guide or a narrator directing the meditation session. There is
usually background music and an individual who runs the session, directing the attendees to
experience the session by seeing, feeling, hearing or sensing the information in a way that is right for
them. There is an extraordinary power to a guided meditation session. The results seem to be deeper
and more profound as no conscious thought is needed to drive the session, you are simply following.
This then takes a lot of pressure off the meditator as they can just breath, relax and follow the
suggestions and directions and allow themselves to be taken on a journey.
We can literally be transported to a different time, realm, planet, or taken back or forward to events
in our current lives, and future lives all by relaxing and trusting in the narrator, our energy and the
power of our minds. Individuals report all kinds of feelings and emotions elicited by a guided
meditation from floating to flying to feeling as though they have totally left their bodies. Some visit
other places, other times, planets, dimensions and realms. There is no limit to what can be accessed,
and each individual's experience is different and intensely personal to them.
The key to an amazing session comes from our ability to relax, to trust the process and to get out of
our own way. The more that we access a trance-like state, the quicker and easier we allow ourselves
to trust, let go and just enjoy. Throughout the modules, you will be partaking in several guided
meditations, where you will be directed and talked down into an altered state to allow yourself to
experience a situation whether it be real, imagined or something that may be impossible to access in
a normal waking state.

Now we are going to experience a Relaxation meditation, where we will move energy through each
part of your body working on all of your body systems, fibers, cells, muscles and organs to balance you
and create optimal health and well-being. It’s important to write down what you experienced, what
you felt happening in your body, documenting the emotions, feelings, thoughts, and places visited and
experienced as part of the session. This session is called ‘White Light Healing’.

We are going to take some time now to help you to establish your own sacred space, which is a safe
protected place, a haven of tranquillity and peace that you can visit at any time you choose to. You
can use this place in several different ways. It can be where you take yourself off to when you meditate,
you can go there to enjoy refuge and calm if you have had a frantic day, and you can also take yourself
there to heal, regroup and talk to your guide or other loved ones as necessary. It may be the starting
point, the gateway or door area for you to access past and future lives, or even lives on other planets
or dimensions.
A sacred or safe space/place can be somewhere that you have been to before, it can be somewhere
that you would like to visit, or it can be somewhere totally conjured up by your wonderful imagination.
It is the energy that we put into making this place special and sacred that brings it to life, making it real,
accessible, and embedding it into the realms of spirit, making it a truly magickal experience. This is
your space, your place of safety and calm, so you can call in anything that you need to make it so. This
space doesn’t need to make sense, it can be as weird and surreal as you need it to be, it just doesn’t
need to be understood in the real-world terms. I have had several safe/sacred places throughout my
years working with spirit. There are 2 that I frequent often.
1. Open field on a sunny day. Gently sloping hill. Long grass that moves in the breeze. A huge old
sprawling tree with lots of branches that is great to climb and sit in, which offers great views of
the surrounding countryside. I often sit under the tree, leaning up against her, nestled in the
tree roots. I also have a big, worn caramel brown leather chair which is a recliner that is big
enough to sit cross-legged in. There is always a blanket hanging over the back of the chair.
Sometimes I can go there at night and recline back under the blanket and look up at the millions
and trillions of stars, the sky is amazing, twinkly and alive.
2. The other place that I visit is a crystal healing cave. This is where I take myself when I feel that
I am in need of healing or re-energising. The cave is large, clean, and beautifully lit with shining
crystals of all colours shapes and sizes. There is always relaxing music playing in the background
and in the centre of the cave is a pool. The crystals at the bottom shine through the water and
make it look amazing. The water is warm and so inviting and I spend most of my time here
floating in the pool with my eyes closed being healed, balanced and energised. Time moves
very differently in this space and I am very aware of my ethereal body rather than my physical
body whilst I am here.
Whilst in either of these places I am able to meet with my guide or loved ones who have passed over.
I can also tune in to the living and have energetic conversations with them, making amends, healing
situations and working through current life issues that are not able to be dealt with or finalised whilst
in physical form. This is a hugely powerful and extraordinary way to bring healing not just to ourselves
but to those that we may have wronged or who those who have wronged us.

Exercise 12: Recording the information from the meditation about your Sacred Space
This space that you have been able to experience and explore today will be somewhere that you can
go to time and time again. It will become an important part of your meditation and visualisation
techniques that you will be able to work with, grow and change as you do. This place needs to be
strong and sharp in your mind, it needs to be real in the sense that you can recall instantly the sounds,
smells and feeling that this place conjures up and instills in you. The more time you spend working on
making this space a haven, the more rewarding spending time here will be.
Describe your sacred space. Include sounds, smells, visuals and the feelings experienced there
