Method statement for AAC Block works at External walls

Preparations

1- All blocks shall be procured from the approved automatic block factory
2- The area/floor proposed to start the block work activity in, should be cleaned from
any debris, old mortar, dust …
3- The surveyor will set out all the required axes, offset lines and points.
4- The block work area will be wetted with water.
5- Surface of AAC blocks to be joined with mortar is to be wetted.
6- The mortar for AAC block will be blocks approved adhesive.
7- The base bed courses must invariably be laid in ordinary mason's mortar.
8- The joint adhesive thickness should be approximately 2-3 mm, and the thickness
of joint for base course bed should be at least 12.5 mm.

Connections

1- Wall to column Connection: Mason's mortar should be used at all wall to column
Interface joints, columns should be brushed dust-free, and if necessary roughened
by basting to ensure good bond. Walls should be mechanically tied to columns
with30 cm steel anchor rods 2T10 mm every two courses
2- In case of Wall to beam Connections and wall to floor soffit connections: ordinary
mason's mortar should be used.

Block laying:

1- The first course of the block will be laid in a full bed of ordinary mortar. This will
be inspected for internal dimensions, door sizes, distances …
2- For external wall at ground floor level, damp proof course to be laid on a layer of
mortar.

3- The block mason will complete the wall on the approved first course.
4- Block mesh to be provided first at 2nd bed course and thereafter every 2nd bed
course.

5- All fire rated walls to be of solid block.

6- The maximum height to be built in one day is 1.6 m (8 courses)


7- For the walls not have opening for doors and windows the heights more than 3 ma
concrete tie beam 200 mm depth will be poured for stiffness purposes.
8- Stiffener column or beam will be provided for wall area exceeding 14 m2.
9- Blocks on the sides of doors & windows to be made solid concrete.

10- In-situ reinforced concrete lintels and beams should be 4T10 and T8/30 cm
11- (10mm) thick flexile sheet will be provided between the last layer of block and the
ceiling.
12- Blocks on the sides of doors & windows to be made solid by filling concrete.

13- Opening for all MEP services to be provided as per approved builder work drawing.

14- Block work to be cured for 4 days.

15- Keep AAC unit work free of mortar droppings as work progresses and, at
completion of work, rub AAC unit to remove excess mortar.
16- The block walls will be finally inspected by Engineer for verticality,
alignment
