ANSWERS & MARK SCHEME

Scaled Score TEST C

Tracking - using tests to track children's progress YEAR 3

Once a test has been marked, a raw score out of 50 can be awarded.
This score should then be converted to a scaled score using the conversion charts
in the digital/CD-ROM version.

The table below can then be used to identify progress against one of the 6 stages.
(See notes in the digital/CD-ROM version for further information.)

NB: The stage boundaries and 3 'standards' in the table below are intended
Year 3 as a guide to children's progress. They should not be interpreted in the
same way as a scaled score of 100 is used as 'standard met' in KS1 and KS2
SATs.

Scaled Score Stage

0 - 75 Emerging
Working towards the
expected standard
76 - 95 Developing

96 - 100 Progressing
Working within the
expected standard
101 - 112 Secure

113 - 122 Exceeding

Working above the
expected standard
123 + Exceeding with greater depth

The assessments are intended to be used by teachers as a tool to support their

professional judgement. The table above should be used only as a guide to
achievement and progress. This data should always be used in conjunction with
ongoing teacher assessment.
