The dimensions of the composite beam which includes a simply supported beam and a
cantilever beam is 726mm(length)40mm(width)7mm(thickness). It’s made of 45#
steel per GB/T699-1999. The dimensions of the stage-base is 750mm(length)
255mm(width)35mm(thickness). And it’s made of 45# steel per GB/T699-1999. The
base weights 48kg and the support columns weight 14kg.

Power amplifier output must not be short-cut, otherwise it will burn the fuse in
the power amplifier.
4.3 Charge Amplifier
There’re 2 channels of charge amplifier. One is used for the accelerometer signal,
another is for force sensor signal of hammer.
4.3.1. Main Technical Specifications

4. Charge input
(1)OLED screen: It’s mainly show
the status of the charge
amplifier (or the channel)
parameter and setting as 1
shown below: 2
• LPF——low pass filter.
• OutPut——the signal outputsetting. It contains Dis for Overload

displacement, Vel for velocity and Acc for acceleration.
• Sen——sensitivity.It can set the sensitivity of sensors. 4
Setting
The unit is shown according to the OutPut setting.For
example, when the OutPut sets Acc, the unit will be Charge
Input
pC/(ms-2).
• Gain——the gain of charge signal. It’s according to the
Sen setting.It has 5 orders, and the middle order is 1:1
(the voltage conversion of the charge input is equal to
the voltage value output).
(2)Overload indicator: It shows whether the voltage conversion of the charge input
overloads. When the voltage conversion of the charge input is greater than
±10Vp, the overload indicator will be light.
(3)Setting knob:It’s a knob for parameter of charge amplifier setting. The knob has a
rotating stall and a pressing stall.
The rotating stall is for the function of choice and change. Choice means to
change the cursor position by rotating the knob (rotating a gear change a
position). Change means to change the cursor position value or switch by rotating
the knob.
The pressing stall is the function of determine. It means to determine the
settings of the cursor position or entering or jumping out of the cursor positon.
(4)Charge input: It connects to the charge output sensors by L5-L5 cable.
4.3.3. Operation
4.3.3.1. Turn on the power switch and warm up for 30 minutes.
4.3.3.2. Connect the output socket of the charge amplifier to the input socket of the
indicating instruments such as voltmeter, frequency analyzer, data acquisition
instruments and oscilloscope, etc.
4.3.3.3. Connect the sensor to the charge amplifier input socket by L5-L5 cable.
4.3.3.4. Set the LPF
Instrument OLED display default cursor position on the first line is LPF, that is,
low-pass filter:
Press the <Setting> knob to enter the LPF setting. Clockwise rotate the knob a stall
can change the cursor position to next position or change the number of the cursor
position increase one, and anti-clockwise rotate the knob a stall can change the
cursor position to previous position or change the number of the cursor position

Press the <Setting> knob to save the tens of thousands bit of Sen setting, and jump
out of the setting of Sen.
4.3.3.7. Set the gain of the output
Instrument OLED display default cursor position on the fourth line is Gain, it’s used
for setting the gain of the output. Rotate the <Setting> knob to the Gain line. Press the
<Setting> knob to enter the setting of the gain. The output gain has 5 stalls, they are
0.01, 0.1, 1, 10, 100. When the sensitivity of the sensor has been set, the default gain
will change according to the sensitivity. But the default gain is always 1, which means
the voltage conversion of the charge input is equal to the voltage value output. We can
rotate the knob clockwise or anti-clockwise to change the gain of the output, and press
the knob to jump out of the gain settings.
4.4 Programmable Sine Wave Signal Source
Programmable signal source's output
connector is a standard BNC connector.
BNC cable can be used to connect the
signal output. Programmable signal source
within the instrument has been connected
with the exciter’s power amplifier.
Sine wave and square wave signal is directly output to the power amplifier for contact
exciter or no-contact exciter.
The software control panel of programmable signal source is as shown.
The signal source parameters can be set as follows: frequency (Hz), sweep frequency
interval (Hz), signal amplitude (0~5V), signal output method (single-frequency or sweep).
Three frequencies memory button may store or read three frequencies. Buttons
Description:
─ Decrease frequency
With optional WS-DAQ software can also perform other signal data acquisition. With
optional Vib’SYS software can also perform signal processing and spectrum analysis.
This is the extension function of the instrument.
4.6 USB interface of Computer
We can automatically install the USB driver in different systems by running the
“CDM21218_Setup.exe” file.
Note: this procedure should be
implemented as administrator in Win7,
Win8, or Win10 systems.
Connect the WS-5923 Vibration
comprehensive teaching instrument
and computer by the USB line. The
new device will be prompted if the
computer is first plugged in the device.
Follow the prompts to confirm that
the installation is automatic. The
device will be loaded immediately
after the device is inserted again.
There will be no more tips.

5.2 Installation of the Software
Directly run the “Setup.exe” program on the CD-ROM of Vib'EDU software. The software
will been installed in the default folder of DiskID:\ Program Files\ Vib'SYS\ Vib'EDU. After
installing of the software in Windows, It may create a shortcut icon on the desktop.
Vib’EDU Software Panel:
Most experiment in the teaching system has a function to generate experiment report.
The messages of university, college, etc. in the report may be entered in the Parameters
Setting control page. Entered messages may be stored automatically by the software.
Experiment curves may be pasted to the report. The format of the report is Microsoft
Word. Student can also edit the contents and curves in the report.
6. Experiments of Vibration
Experiment 1.1 Modal of Simply Supported Beam
Schematic Layout of Apparatus:
Excit the simply supported beam with force hammer, and measure the responses
of the acceleration sensor and the force sensor. Then the software may calculate
the transfer function between the force and the acceleration. Get the natural
frequency of simple supported beam structure.
Software Panel:
Operating Steps:
1) Run the Vib’EDU software
2) Press the button of “Experiment 1.1 Mode Shape of Simple Supported Beam”
on main software panel of Vib’EDU. Following is this experiment’s software
panel of parameters setting.
3) Press “Create or Open a Job” Button, and input a new name for creating a
new job or select a job from the list directory.
4) The software may display the panel with setting of parameters, it’s included in
the number of measuring nudes of hammering and response of accelerometer,
sample frequency, sensitivity coefficient of force sensor and accelerometer.
Those parameters will be properly selected by the software. For teaching
experiment, the parameters are unnecessary to select by student.
5) Press “Yes” button to save those parameters, then the software may display
working panel of the experiment. If load a job from hard disk, the software
may display a panel to promote student whether to load saved data from the
job. If press “Yes”, saved data will be loaded from hard disk. Otherwise, a new
job will be created.
Experiment Steps:

The node no.1 and 10 should not been hammered for simple supported beam.
This is because of that those nodes are the support point for the beam. They
are still points.
2) Clear current data
When the data of hammering isn’t good for current node, press “Clear”
button may clear the current data of the hammering.
3) Oscilloscope display
Press “Oscilloscope” button may display the curves of force sensor and
accelerometer. Observing the response of force sensor and accelerometer,
make sure that the response of force sensor and accelerometer is properly
acquired.
4) Clear the offset
Offset will affect the result of the experiment. So when the acquired data have
an offset, press “Clear Offset” button may clear this offset.
5) Prepare hammering
The program will acquired the response of force sensor and accelerometer by
triggering after pressing “Prepare Hammering” button. After triggering, the
curve of force sensor and accelerometer and the curve of their transfer
function will be displayed on the screen.
6) Hammering and multi-average
The transfer function of force and acceleration will be averaged by each node.
Normally, every node should be hammered three times at least. Transfer
function will be automatically calculated by the software.
7) Continue hammering for each nodes
To continue each hammering for each node, then finish the experiment, we
can press “Next” or “Last” button may display the curve of transfer function of
each node.
Parameters Selection:
1) Display Contents
Calculation Method: Transfer function, Coherency
function, FFT, Auto power spectrum density, cross
power spectrum density.
Display Contents: Amplitude, Phase, Real part,
Image Part, Amplitude and phase, Real and Image
part.
Start Frequency: Minimum frequency of the
coordinate
End Frequency: Maximum frequency of the coordinate
Same coordinate in frequency domain: This selection is to the coordinate for
each channel. It’s facilitates comparison of the relationship between the
measuring points (channel).

5) The software may calculate the spectrum and display its frequency and
amplitude curve. Then it may calculate the damping ratio by half-power
bandwidth method.
Experiment 2.2 Damping Ratio (Attenuation method)
Software Panel:
doesn’t require other experimental instruments. The software module is free software.
It is available for students to learn how to use the generation of sine wave, rectangle
wave, white noise, signal process, low pass filters, band-pass filter, high pass filter,
spectrum analysis of fast Fourier transform and auto power spectrum density. The
software is on CD-ROM's Vib'SIG folder.
Software Panel:
This experiment is the demonstration of the software only. We may adjust the
frequency and amplitude of the two sine waves. When their frequency is close, the

frequency of sine wave is around 30Hz to 200Hz. The expected frequency of
the sine wave should be around 60Hz. In this case, it should be easier to
observe the vibration of the beam.
3) Adjust output current of the power amplifier from small to large, and make it
generally around 100mA.
4) Record and display the vibration curve of amplitude and frequency.

[Attention]
1) The motor of active vibration isolation device is equipped with
eccentric rotating wheel. To avoid flying out at high-speed
rotation, it is necessary to check the eccentric rotating wheel
before the experiment.
2) The power supply voltage of the motor is 220V, and the output
voltage may get to 280V. So, Please do not touch the power to
avoid electroshock.

Software Panel:
Operating Steps:
1) Connect sensors, instruments and experimental apparatus according to the
diagram. Install the passive isolator on the beam.
2) Adjust the programmable signal source and output sine wave signal. The sweeping
frequency is from 20Hz to 1000Hz. Sweeping frequency interval may be 2Hz.
3) Adjust output current of the power amplifier from small to large and make it
generally around 100mA.
4) At first, place the accelerometer on the passive isolator. Acquire and record the
frequency response curve of the accelerometer in sine wave sweeping mode. Then
press the button of “Reserve Frequency Response” to reserve the frequency
response curve. Secondly, place the accelerometer on the beam under the passive
isolator. Measure the frequency response curve of repeated. The software may
display the two frequency response curves. Then compare with the effect of
passive isolator.
5) Clicking the mouse’s left button on the peak of the curve, then software can show
the frequency value of the corresponding points of the curve.
6) Clicking the mouse’s left button on the curve, then the software will pop-up a
menu of "Copy the Graph to Clipboard". Pressing the menu may send the graph to
Windows’s Clipboard, and it may be pasted to other software (i.e. Word) for
writing the experiment’s report.

The green curve is the frequency response of the beam without passive isolator.
And the pink curve is the frequency response of the beam with passive isolator.
As can be seen from the example of figure, the high-frequency (628.3Hz)
significantly inhibited by passive isolator. The lower frequency (160.6Hz) vibration
of the beam has been amplified. This is caused by the self-vibration of rubber
absorbers in the passive isolator.
Experiment 5.8 Vibration with Single Absorber
Schematic Layout of Apparatus:
In the diagram, the pink color curve is absorbing effect of single absorber against
the main frequency of 35.8Hz of the beam.
Experiment 5.9 Vibration with Double Absorber
Schematic Layout of Apparatus:
In the diagram, the pink color curve is the absorbing effect of double absorber
against the main frequency of 34.1Hz of the beam. The frequency of 29.6Hz and
41.9Hz is the nature frequency of the arms of the double absorber.

Experiment Apparatus: 1 set of motor and motor speed adjuster, 1 contact vibration
exciter, 1 accelerometer, 1 instrument with exciter’s power amplifier and 1
channel charge amplifier and programmable signal source, 1 computer.
Experimental Principle: When the vibration of exciter frequency is closer to the
rotating frequency of the motor. The beat wave will be produced on the simply
supported beam.
Operating Steps:
1) Connect sensors, instruments and experimental apparatus according to the
diagram.
2) Adjust the frequency of the sine wave signal to F1. The sine wave is amplified
by power amplifier and excites the exciter. The vibration of contacted exciter
makes the simply supported beam forced vibration.
3) Adjust the rotation speed of the motor. Define the frequency of the rotation is
F2. The vibration of motor makes the base of the experiment set forced
vibration.
4) When the F1 and F2 is closer. The vibration curve of simply supported beam
measured by accelerometer is beat wave as the following figure.

Experiment Apparatus: 1 eddy sensor, 1 magnetic base, the string (with one, two or
three weight blocks), Instrument with exciter’s power amplifier and
programmable signal source, 1 computer.
Operating Steps:1 ) Connect sensors, instruments and experimental apparatus
according to the diagram.
2)Gently flick the mass blocks in the vertical direction. The string will
make free damped vibration. Then we can read the frequency in the left
window and calculate the value of the cable force. Change the weight of the
counterweight block and repeat the above procedure.
