FAUNA AND FLORA MANAGEMENT

1. PROJECT BACKGROUND
Transnet National Port Authority's Head Office have recently relocated from Parktown, Johannesburg and Kingsmead, Durban offices to
Port of Ngqura's eMendi Building. The eMendi building was commissioned in April 2017, however there was some outstanding scope that
couldn't be done due to budget constraints. With the relocation of the TNPA head office to the Port of Ngqura (eMendi building), an
opportunity has presented itself to maximise the occupancy potential of the building through a reconfiguration of the office space. The
project scope entails a full Structural analysis and design of the proposed expansion of the additional floors and Building alterations. The
Contractor’s scope shall include the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of Electrical, Civil, structural and Mechanical
Engineering works as detailed under the project’s scope of work and floor plans.

4. DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKS

The Contractor shall propose deliverables to achieve the required scope of work for acceptance by the Employer. The Contractor shall
propose the skilled staff to be formally mobilised to ensure that the deliverables of this project are met. The Building is currently fully
occupied and used as offices, the Employer and the Contractor shall agree the interface particulars as and when applicable. The
sequencing and phasing out of the works will be agreed with the successful Contractor. All Owners’ team representatives shall be
consulted prior to commencement of each task order. All relevant policies and procedure documents shall be made available to the
Contractor upon request. The Scope of work for this project includes the scope for Architecture, Structures, Electrical, Civil and
Mechanical Engineering.

The Employer shall provide concept layouts of the proposed work areas. The Contractor shall therefore undertake full design responsibility
for the total design solution of the new recreational facilities, Electrical and Mechanical works. The main parts of the works which the
Contractor is to undertake shall be the Detailed Design phase and Execution phase deliverables. The Contractor shall submit all detailed
design drawings to Employer for acceptance prior to execution of the works. The Contractor’s ECSA registered engineering designers
shall approve all design drawings and documentation prior submission to the Employer.

5. PUBLIC COMMUNICATION AND LIAISON WITH I&AP’s

While it is the developer’s responsibility to perform this function, NOTHI GROUP shall ensure that the adjacent landowners are

informed timeously and updated throughout the construction phases.

Sufficient signage shall be erected around the site (including at the entrance), informing the public of the construction activities taking place. The
signboards shall include the following information:
- The name of Nothi Group; and
- The name and contact details of the site representative to be contacted in the event of emergencies or complaint registration
6. RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY

Nothi Group

Nothi Group shall oversee the overall construction on site including management of subcontactors It shall be our primary responsibility to be fully
conversant with the EMPr and all conditions of the EA, Water Use Licence (WUL), etc.;

Nothi Group will thus conduct all activities in a manner that minimises disturbance to the natural environment as well as directly affected
residents and the public in general.

7. ANTICIPATED/POTENTIAL IMPACTS ON SITE

Nothi Group anticipate the following aspects on site during the life cycle of the project:

 Destruction of natural vegetation;

 Disruption and/or altering of natural drainage patterns;

 Soil degradation and erosion;

 Dust;

 Noise; and

 Potential impacts on groundwater resources

8. WORK TO BE EXECUTED ON SITE THAT COULD AFFECT FAUNA AND FLORA

Excavation, site clearing, dumping of spoiled material outside the defined site during construction, noise during construction work, human
activity, noise and light generated during construction activities, dust generated during construction works can have adverse effects upon
vegetation restricting photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration, movement of personnel and vehicles.

9. HOW ARE WORKS TO BE EXECUTED ON SITE TO MANAGE FAUNA AND FLORA

During construction activities, Nothi Group shall manage the disturbances of fauna and flora through ensuring among others, that:

 Contamination of natural habitat and nearby wetlands from any source of pollution is prevented
 There is demarcate of construction areas by semi-permanent means/ material, in order to control movement of personnel, vehicles,
providing boundaries for construction and operational sites
 No painting or marking of rocks or vegetation to identify locality or other information shall be allowed, as it will disfigure the natural setting.
Marking shall be done by steel stakes with tags, if required.

 Provision is made for demarcated fire-safe zones, facilities and suitable fire control measures.
 Access is to be established by vehicles passing over the same track on natural ground. Multiple tracks are not permitted.
 Dust control on all roads is prioritised.
 No spoil material will be dumped outside the defined site
 No killing or harming of animals
 Stored topsoil will be free of deleterious matter such as large roots, stones, refuse, stiff or heavy clay and noxious weeds, which would
adversely affect its suitability for planting
10. TYPE OF PPE TO BE USED

Though the risk assessment on each activity/task executed on site will determine the type of PPE’s required, we nevertheless
recommend the following PPE when working with fly ash and the entire activities on the project:

Dust Coat Gumboots Safety Shoes Gloves Safety Glasses Respirator

Dust/Chemical Mask Fibre Mask to protect against Covid-19 Hearing Protection ,

11. HEALTH AND SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

Nothi Group shall comply with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act No 85 of 1993 as amended. Applicable health and
safety standards shall be conformed to, any deviations will be reported to the Construction/Site Manager and corrective measures shall be
applied to mitigate the health and safety risks.

In its commitment to Zero Harm stance, Nothi Group shall thoroughly consider the following:
1 Suitably stocked First Aid facilities shall be on hand at all times in accordance with international practice. All staff shall be aware of its location
2 The wearing of PPE on site is mandatory for all personnel and construction workers 3 All
personnel shall be trained in basic site safety procedures.
4 Smoking will only be allowed at designated areas.
5 A Safety file shall be available on site and be maintained
6 Adequate ablution facilities shall be provided for construction workers


12. ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

In light of our commitment to ensuring environmental impacts are minimised, controlled and reduced at an acceptable level, Nothi Group shall
conduct all activities in a manner that minimises disturbance to the natural environment as well as directly affected residents and the public in
general.

Fauna and Flora Management & Control

As part of management of fauna and flora, Nothi Group shall ensure, inter alia that:
1 Contamination of natural habitat and nearby wetlands from any source of pollution is prevented 2 All
vegetation not required to be removed is protected against damage.
3 Removal of vegetation/ plants shall be avoided until such time as soil stripping is required and similarly exposed surfaces shall be re- vegetated or
stabilised as soon as is practically possible.
4 Disturbance of vegetation is limited to areas of construction.
5 The removal or picking of any protected or unprotected plants shall not be permitted and no horticultural specimens (even within the demarcated
working area) shall be removed, damaged or tampered with unless agreed to by the ECO. 
6 No killing or harming of animals takes place.

Control of Hazardous Chemicals

The only noticeable hazardous chemical we shall use is acetone. It will be used for the cleaning of pipes and shall be stored off site. An MSDS shall
be made available for such.

 13. QUALITY CONSIDERATIONS
All surveying equipment should be accompanied with valid calibration certificates. An Equipment Register with copies of all certificates are to be kept
on file as proof of calibration. All Surveyor results should also be retained and kept on file to be given to the Engineer with
the QC Data Packs at the end of the contract. Quality assurance and control to be implemented in accordance with the approved QCP and applicable
inspection checklists.
14. GENERAL INSPECTION, MONITORING AND REPORTING
On-going monitoring is to be undertaken by Contractors’ Environmental Manager/Officer – this will include notification to the ECO and proponent
EO should an incident take place. Nothi Group’s Environmental Officer shall undertake weekly site inspections to ensure all legislative requirements are
adhered to. Proof of such inspections shall be kept on file for ease of reference or for audit purposes. The inspection report shall also be emailed
every Monday to the SHEQ Consultant. Equally so, the SHEQ Consultant shall conduct its monthly environmental audits.in ensuring that Nothi
Group in on track with environmental compliance.
