Method Statement - Fauna and Flora Management
PROPOSED ACTIVITY NO 2 CONTRACT NO PROJECT EXPECTED START DATE PROJECT EXPECTED END DATE
1. PROJECT BACKGROUND
Transnet National Port Authority's Head Office have recently relocated from Parktown, Johannesburg and Kingsmead, Durban offices to
Port of Ngqura's eMendi Building. The eMendi building was commissioned in April 2017, however there was some outstanding scope that
couldn't be done due to budget constraints. With the relocation of the TNPA head office to the Port of Ngqura (eMendi building), an
opportunity has presented itself to maximise the occupancy potential of the building through a reconfiguration of the office space. The
project scope entails a full Structural analysis and design of the proposed expansion of the additional floors and Building alterations. The
Contractor’s scope shall include the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of Electrical, Civil, structural and Mechanical
Engineering works as detailed under the project’s scope of work and floor plans.

3. DEFINITIONS: As taken from NEMA and related Environmental Legislation
The Employer shall provide concept layouts of the proposed work areas. The Contractor shall therefore undertake full design responsibility
for the total design solution of the new recreational facilities, Electrical and Mechanical works. The main parts of the works which the
Contractor is to undertake shall be the Detailed Design phase and Execution phase deliverables. The Contractor shall submit all detailed
design drawings to Employer for acceptance prior to execution of the works. The Contractor’s ECSA registered engineering designers
shall approve all design drawings and documentation prior submission to the Employer.
While it is the developer’s responsibility to perform this function, NOTHI GROUP shall ensure that the adjacent landowners are

informed timeously and updated throughout the construction phases.
Sufficient signage shall be erected around the site (including at the entrance), informing the public of the construction activities taking place. The
signboards shall include the following information:
- The name of Nothi Group; and
- The name and contact details of the site representative to be contacted in the event of emergencies or complaint registration
6. RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
Nothi Group
Nothi Group shall oversee the overall construction on site including management of subcontactors It shall be our primary responsibility to be fully
conversant with the EMPr and all conditions of the EA, Water Use Licence (WUL), etc.;
Nothi Group will thus conduct all activities in a manner that minimises disturbance to the natural environment as well as directly affected
residents and the public in general.
Nothi Group anticipate the following aspects on site during the life cycle of the project:
Dust;
Noise; and
Excavation, site clearing, dumping of spoiled material outside the defined site during construction, noise during construction work, human
activity, noise and light generated during construction activities, dust generated during construction works can have adverse effects upon
vegetation restricting photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration, movement of personnel and vehicles.
During construction activities, Nothi Group shall manage the disturbances of fauna and flora through ensuring among others, that:
Contamination of natural habitat and nearby wetlands from any source of pollution is prevented
There is demarcate of construction areas by semi-permanent means/ material, in order to control movement of personnel, vehicles,
providing boundaries for construction and operational sites
No painting or marking of rocks or vegetation to identify locality or other information shall be allowed, as it will disfigure the natural setting.
Marking shall be done by steel stakes with tags, if required.

Provision is made for demarcated fire-safe zones, facilities and suitable fire control measures.
Access is to be established by vehicles passing over the same track on natural ground. Multiple tracks are not permitted.
Dust control on all roads is prioritised.
No spoil material will be dumped outside the defined site
No killing or harming of animals
Stored topsoil will be free of deleterious matter such as large roots, stones, refuse, stiff or heavy clay and noxious weeds, which would
adversely affect its suitability for planting
10. TYPE OF PPE TO BE USED
Though the risk assessment on each activity/task executed on site will determine the type of PPE’s required, we nevertheless
recommend the following PPE when working with fly ash and the entire activities on the project:
In its commitment to Zero Harm stance, Nothi Group shall thoroughly consider the following:
1 Suitably stocked First Aid facilities shall be on hand at all times in accordance with international practice. All staff shall be aware of its location
2 The wearing of PPE on site is mandatory for all personnel and construction workers 3 All
personnel shall be trained in basic site safety procedures.
4 Smoking will only be allowed at designated areas.
5 A Safety file shall be available on site and be maintained
6 Adequate ablution facilities shall be provided for construction workers
B. NOTHI GROUP
I, the undersigned, understand the contents of this Method Statement and the scope of the works required of me. I further understand
that this Method Statement may be amended on application to and with approval by the Engineer, and that the SHE Coordinator,
Construction Manager and ECO will audit my compliance with the contents of this Method Statement
