Applied Chemistry Lab 10

The document discusses methods for determining dissolved oxygen (DO) levels directly or using probes. It describes safety precautions when handling chemicals and using equipment. The theory section outlines a titration method using various reagents. The procedure involves calibrating a DO meter or probe, collecting a representative water sample, immersing the probe fully, and taking readings. Figures 1 and 2 are included but not described. The conclusion states that DO is an indicator of water quality dependent on temperature, pressure, and pH.

Practical No: 08

Object: To determine of dissolve oxygen (DO) by direct method/Probes

method

Here, you will learn about:

✓ Determination of DOE By direct method.

Safety Precautions:

1) Wear appropriate PPE such as goggles, gloves, etc. To protect against

hazards.
2) Know about chemicals and follow proper storage and handling procedures.
3) Work in well-ventilated areas or use fume hoods for certain substances.
4) Be aware of the location of emergency equipment and know what to do in
case of accidents.
5) Inspect electrical equipment for damage, and avoid overloading outlets.
6) Keep your work area clean, and clean up spills promptly.
7) Wash your hands after handling chemicals and avoid touching your face,
mouth, eyes, and tongue.

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment):

Theory:

 Titration method to dissolve oxygen

a. 2ml of manganese sulfate
b. 2ml of alkali Iodied-azide
c. 2ml of concentrated sulfuric acid
d. Sodium thiosulfate.

Procedure:

1. Calibration of Do meter/probe.
2. Sample collection representative sample of the water.
3. Measurement immus the DO prop into water sample ensures that the prope is
fully submerged into water sample.
4. Readings and recordings take the DO readings from the meter or display the
prope.

Conclusion:

 Dissolved oxygen is an indicator of water quality.

 Several factors depend on several factors like temperature pressure, pH etc.
 Sample analyzed were considered to be of minimal pollution.
