1. Scope and Objective of the Course:
Power Electronics (PE) is one of the important courses of electrical & electronics engineering
discipline, which controls the flow of power by appropriately shaping current and voltage
waveforms according to the of load requirement, with the help of semiconductor switches. This
necessitates the knowledge of Analog/Digital Electronics and Control Systems, signal system,
machines power system etc. This makes PE interdisciplinary in nature. Now a days, PE is the
integral part of modern technology, employed in every engineering applications, ranges from few
Watts domestic to several Megawatts industrial. Here in this course of Power Electronic, Converter’s
theoretical, design and their applications will be covered in 40 lectures. The numerical /design
issues and laboratory experiments will be dealt in respective session.

After successful completion of this course, students will be able to design, simulate and develop
prototype power electronic converters for efficient use of power in any engineering applications .
