7. Answer total five questions.

1. a) Explain the terms GLULAM & SLT. What is there relevance in construction technology? 9

b) Describe with sketch, cable stayed structures. Enumerate their advantages & limitations. 9

2. Explain briefly the pneumatic structures? What are their types? Write in brief about their 18
suitability as building enclosure.

3. a) Enlist and explain briefly various types of foundations used for high rise buildings. 9

b) Explain the terms Grouting and Guniting. What is its application in building construction? 9

4. a) What is meant by concrete admixture? Enlist and explain the utility of any five 9
admixtures.

b) Explain Epicentre, Focus, Earth quake waves & magnitude. 9

5. a) What is soft storey effect and pounding effect? How to prevent damage due to these effects? 9

b) What do you mean by NDT? What is the purpose? Explain briefly any two NDTs. 9

6. a) What is the philosophy of earthquake resistance? How is it appropriate to Indian context? 9

8. An existing residential building having out-out dimensions as 10M x 10M is required to
be provided with
i) R.C.C. Staircase for reaching the terrace
ii) R.C.C canopy of size 4x6m in front.
The present structure is of 1½ Brick thick load bearing walls supported by brick
foundation and has a R.C.C roof slab resting on load bearing walls. Draw.

i) Ground Floor plan – 1:50 8

ii) Roof plan – 1:50 8

iii) Sections passing – 1:50 through stair and canopy. 12

Note: a) Both the additions (stair & canopy) are to be independent of existing structure.
No support to be derived from the existing walls/ slab & existing foundation not
to be tampered with.
b) Assume suitable data.
