DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 2

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 50-minute lesson, the learners are expected to:
a. identify the four types of demonstrative pronoun;
b. appreciate the importance of using demonstrative pronoun; and
c. construct sentences using demonstrative pronoun.

A. PRELIMINARIES
1. Prayer
Good morning pupils, How are you today?
Okay before we start may request everybody to
please stand for our opening prayer.

Amen. Amen.

Before you take your seat see to it that your chairs


are properly aligned and pick up the pieces of
paper under your chairs.

2. Attendance
For your attendance just raise your right hand and
say present if your name is being called.

Okay, very good nobody is absent today, a round


of applause.
3. Review of the previous lesson
Class, do you still remember our lesson yesterday?
What was our lesson yesterday?
Yes teacher.
Our lesson yesterday was all about adjectives.
Very Good! What is adjectives?

Adjectives are describing words


Impressive! Adjectives are words that describe a
noun or a pronoun.

Who can give me an example of adjectives?

Beautiful!
Can you use beautiful in a sentence?

April is beautiful.
Okay, very good that was our topic yesterday
about Adjectives.

4. Motivation
Before we start, let us listen to some conversation
and take note of some sentences that you will hear.
I will play the audio twice.

Alright, our topic for today is about


“Demonstrative Pronouns”
2. Discussion Pronouns are words that take place of a noun.
Class, what come into your mind when you hear
the word “Pronoun/s”?
It tells the distance, and how many nouns are
Very good! How about “Demonstrative there in a sentence.
Pronouns”? Any idea?

Correct! Let’s start with This and That.


(Students listen attentively)
When do we use This and That?

 This- is used if the noun is in singular form


and the thing is near to you, or you are
holding it.
Examples:
1. This is my car.
2. This phone is expensive.
3. This house is beautiful.
 That- is used if the noun is in singular form
and the thing is far away from you.
Examples:
1. That is my sister.
2. That laptop is cheap.
3. That classroom is quite noisy.

When do we use These and Those?

 These- is used if the noun is in plural form


and the thing near to you, or you are
holding it.
Examples:
1. These are my shoes.
2. These papers are useless.
3. These are my father’s jeans.
 Those- is used if the noun is in plural form
and far away from you.
Examples:
1. Those ladies over there are brilliant.
2. Those guys are familiar.
3. Those cars are fast.

3. Group Activity
(Speaking activity) (Students listen carefully)
Now, I will divide the class into 3 groups, and then
you have to make a simple conversation using
demonstrative pronouns, for example:

Patient: I think this medicine is good for me.


Doctor: Yes, but you have to use that machine to
help you as well.
Nurse: Excuse me Dr., these are the result of her
laboratory exam.
Doctor: Okay, just put those results on my table.
(Each student will cooperate with their group)
Group 1- A conversation between a policeman, a
thief and victims inside the mall.
Group 2- A conversation between firefighter/s and
victims.
Group 3- A conversation between a mother, her
daughter and suitors.

4. Generalization It tells the distance, and how many nouns are


Now, what is a demonstrative pronoun again? there in a sentence.
This, That, These, and Those teacher!
What are the four demonstrative pronouns that we
discussed? “This” This is my chair.
Who can give one and use it in a sentence?
We will use ‘this” if the noun is in singular form

“That” I think that man is a nerd.


Very good! Aside from “this” what else?
We will use ‘that” if the noun is in singular form
When do we use That? and the thing is far away from you.

Excellent! Aside from this and that?
We will use “these” if the noun is in plural form
