D. Teaching Materials
1. Definition of Present Perfect Tense
The present perfect tense is a form of a verb used to express an action or situation that started
in the past and is still continuing today. It’s also used to talk about an event that was
completed but has effects that can still be felt today. This tense is usually used to talk about
experiences or changes in a place. It’s the opposite of the present perfect continuous tense.

The Present Perfect Tense Formula

A present perfect sentence is formed with an auxiliary verb “have/has” and a past participle
(Verb 3). “Have” is used for I, You, and plural subjects, such as plural pronouns (they and
we), plural nouns (boys, men, etc.), and compound subjects with the conjunction “and”.
Meanwhile, “has” is used for singular subjects, such as third-person singular pronouns (he,
she, and it) and singular nouns.
The Function of Present Perfect Tense
Broadly speaking, the present perfect tense in the English language is used to talk about
events that occurred in the past but has no clear or specific time. It’s also used to describe
events that started occurring in the past and is still going on now, including events that
occurred several times starting in the past until now. Another function of the present perfect
tense is to talk about an event that happened earlier than an event we describe using the
simple present.
