DRAGLINE EXCAVATOR

INTRODUCTION OPERATION

• The bucket is lowered in fully dumped position, releasing

both hoist & drag cable, till it rest on ground with the
teeth digging into earth.
• The hoist cable is slackened slightly and then the drag
pull is applied. This action fills in earth and bucket takes
horizontal position. It is then hoisted.
• When dumping height is attained, the boom is swung to
the position of dumping and the drag brake is released.
This will dump the load of bucket.
• The boom is swung back to digging position and the

machinery used for excavation in a mining site is called a
dragline excavator. They are not only massive, but also
provide mining construction operations the ability to be highly
productive by offering a way to streamline hauling and
excavation of large areas. Most dragline excavators have an
operational life span of 40 years, and they are the most
productive and versatile machines in the mining industry.
COMPONENTS OF DRAGLINE FACTORS CONTROLLING OUTPUT

• Type of material • Size of hauling units

• Depth of cutting • Angle of swing
• Size and Type of buckets • length of crane
• Skill of operator • Job condition

APPLICATIONS

• Tractor system • Drums • Most suitable for digging softer materials.

• Hoist cable • Drag cable • Useful for excavating trenches.
• Hoist chain • Drag chain • Mostly used in Excavating Canals and Embankment.
• Boom • Dump cable • Suitable for loose soil, marshy land and areas containing
• Boom hoist cable • Bucket water.
• Cabin • A-frame LIMITATIONS
