(Syllabus)
Unit-I: Fourier Series
Introduction of Fourier series, Periodic functions, Fourier’s Theorem, trigonometric series,
Euler’s formulae, Fourier series expansion, Fourier series of period 2 π, Fourier series for
Discontinuous functions, functions having arbitrary period, change of interval, Even and odd
functions, Dirichlet’s conditions, Fourier series for even and odd function, Half period series,
Paresevel’s formula.

Unit-II: Fourier Transform


Introduction of Fourier Transform, Properties of Fourier Transform, Fourier integral
representation of function. Convolution and Paresevel’s formula for Fourier Transform,
Problems and Applications.

Unit-III: Laplace Transform


Laplace transform, Existence theorem, Ist Shifting Theorem, Laplace transform of derivatives
and integrals, Inverse Laplace transform, Unit step function, Dirac-delta function, Laplace
transform of periodic functions, Laplace Transform of elementary functions, properties of
Laplace Transform, Convolution theorem.

Unit-IV: Discrete Random Variables


Expectation and variance, distribution of a function of a random variable, sum of random
variables, cumulative distribution functions, Bernoulli, binomial, Poisson, geometric,
negative binomial, and hypergeometric random variables.

Unit-V: Continuous random variables


Expectation and variance, uniform, normal, exponential, gamma, Normal approximation to
binomial distribution, distribution of a function of a random variable.

Unit-VI: Jointly distributed random variables


Joint distribution functions, joint moment generating functions, independent random
variables, sums of independent random variables, conditional distributions, joint distribution
of functions of random variables

Unit-VII: Expectations of probability distributions


Sum of random variables, moments of the number of events, covariance, variance of sums,
and correlations, conditional expectation and prediction, moment generating functions, joint
normal random variables.
