Semester: Spring Level of Course: Introductory

Class hours: 08:30-11:20 –on Friday (online)

Course Description: Resources and scarcity; supply and demand; the mixed economy; market structure;
national income; business cycles, unemployment and inflation; economic growth and productivity;
money, banking and monetary policy; international trade and finance.

Required Textbook: Case, K.; Fair, R.; & Oster, S. (2019), Principles of Economics (MyLab
Economics Access Code Card with Pearson eText), Global Edition, 13th Ed., Pearson.

This is a REQUIRED textbook. Quizzes/assignments which account for 15% of the overall grade are
going to be held on through Pearson MyLab Economics online platform. In addition to this, ungraded
homeworks can also be assigned. For this reason, every student is expected to purchase the access code
to register for Pearson MyLab platform.

Pearson MyLab Economics: Pearson MyLab Economics is an online platform that aims to enhance
student learning. For this purpose, the platform offers various materials and exercises to increase
students’ academic performance.

** Quizzes are going to be held on Friday during course time (at 15:30) of the corresponding
week online through Pearson MyLab Economics platform.

Grading Policy: Requirements for this course include:


 1 midterm exam (35%) – in-class
 6 online quizzes/assignments through Pearson MyLab (total 15%) – highest 5 will be counted.
 1 (cumulative) final exam (50%). – in-class
Participation to the in-class discussions will be rewarded.

Please note that you must participate in online quizzes or assignments via Pearson MyLab. There will
be no make-up for quizzes or assignments for any reason.

As mentioned at the beginning of this syllabus, MyLab Economics is a platform that offers students
digital tools to help students practice their knowledge. Its aim is to increase student success. In this
respect, please practice using MyLab, do not use it only for taking quizzes.

*MAKE-UP MIDTERM EXAM POLICY: If the midterm exam is missed, a typewritten and signed
petition fully explaining and documenting why the exam was missed must be submitted to the
professor no later two 2 (two) business days after the date of the exam – otherwise it will not be
accepted. If the absence is due to illness, proper and official documentation from a medical doctor
will be required. If the petition is approved, then a make-up exam is going to be held.
