INTRODUCTION:
Teaching unit generally contains a number of lessons. Careful planning of lessons is essential for
experienced as well as beginner teachers. Lesson planning is an important part of the planning of daily
teaching.
Lesson plan is a plan of action calls for an understanding of the teacher’s part about the topic
being taught and his/ her ability to use the effective method.
TYPES:
Planning:
This step is concerned with the formulation of objectives, selection of the content,
organization of the content, selection of the teaching – learning methods, selection of audio –
visual aids etc
Preparation / Introduction:
This step is concerned with introducing the topic to the students in an interesting manner
there by preparing the students to receive new knowledge.
Different methods and techniques can be used by the teacher to introduce the lesson
(discussing, illustration – showing images, stories)
Presentation:
In this step, the teacher and students actively engage in the teaching- learning process.
The teacher actually presents/ explains the content.
The teacher adopts various teaching methods and audio visual aids to make the learners better
understand the concept of the topic.
The teacher can compare the concepts. E.g. while teaching the importance of maintaining
intake and output chart, the teacher has to motivate the students to recognize the conditions
which require IO monitoring from their clinical experience.
The teacher has to teach the theory with a practical orientation so that students can easily
apply the learned lessons in various health care settings.
The following principles will help in the preparation of a good lesson plan.
The teacher should prepare a careful and flexible plan. The teacher should have the courage to
depart from the plan according to the needs of the students.
The teacher must have mastery of an adequate training in the topic
The teacher must be fully conversant with the new methods of teaching nursing
The teacher should know his/ her students thoroughly and organize materials in a psychological
manner rather than logical manner.
The teacher must ensure active student participation.
Avoid monotonous method of teaching.
