Ms.Akers’ Classroom!

Rules and Procedures Manual

Hi! I’M MS. AKERS
Hi! I am Ms. Akers, and I am filled with joy to welcome you to my classroom! I cannot
wait to get to know you and create a classroom family. I have always had a passion for teaching.
When I was around 10 years old every day after school I would play “school” with my dogs
being my students. I have learned a lot about teaching since then as I have graduated in
elementary education from Stetson University! Go Hatters! However, I am also a panther as I
graduated from Pine Ridge High School. I have lived and grew up in Volusia County Schools,
which is why I am so passionate about being a part of the schools now.

I have a lot of experience in the classroom. I taught at teaching at Citrus Grove

Elementary in DeLand, FL. I taught full-time Monday-Friday at Citrus Grove and gained a lot of
experience and inspiration that I want to take into my classroom. This year will be full of fun,
learning, and a lot of adventures to grow our brains together. I believe that learning looks like
exploration, making mistakes to learn from, and having a lot of fun.

It is my mission to instill a love for learning in every one of my students. I want to do this
by being passionate and coming to school every day with excitement to learn with my students. I
want my students to be lifelong learners because you can never be done learning, there is always
room in your brain :) . To make every one of my students lifelong learners I need everyone to
come to school on time, prepared, and ready to learn. I know that emergencies happen, and kids
can get sick, if your child does need to stay home, please contact me to let me know. I want to
have lots of communication with families as we are both wanting the best for your child. I plan
to keep the classroom running smoothly by using classroom management systems. We will use
tickets that the students can use to buy goodies from our class store every Friday. Students can
receive these tickets by doing outstanding work, being a kind friend to one another, keeping their
materials and desks organized, being prepared, and many other ways. Some of the goodies that
will be in our class store will be candy, special privileges (fun chair for the day, no homework
pass, and many other special privileges that they can choose from), and small toys.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. It is very important to me that
we have strong and open communication. I want to be the best teacher that I can be for you and
your child. Please reach out whenever you feel the need to. I am looking forward to a positive,
fun, and fantastic year together!

Love,
Ms. Akers

Classroom Procedures

1. Absent: When absent, use your “Ketchup” folder to gather missed work. I will prepare
this for you to take home the day before.
2. Line-up: When lining up we will line up in line order (alphabetically organized by last
name) in a voice level 0. Our line leader will change weekly with classroom jobs.
3. Entering the classroom in the morning: We enter the classroom with a level 1 in the
morning. We will unpack our bookbags by taking out our binders, snacks, and materials
and setting them on our desk. Put lunch boxes on the shelf near the door.
4. Entering the classroom: We will enter the classroom at level 0 and go to our tables.
5. Finishing work early: If you finish your work early, first finish any makeup work that you
may have. If you do not have any makeup work, then you will read a book of your
choice.
6. Exiting the classroom: We will exit the classroom in line order, at a level 0, with bubbles
in our mouths, use our walking feet, and keep our hands/arms to our sides or behind our
backs.
7. Walking in line: We will walk in line at a level 0, bubbles in our mouths, using our
walking feet, and keeping our hands/arms to our sides or behind our backs. At each
corner, our line leader will stop and wait for instructions to go.
8. Teacher Assistance: If you need the teacher and I am busy working with another student
or small group you may come up to me if it is an emergency (you are bleeding, need to
go to the nurse, or if something has happened that needs my attention immediately). If it
is not an emergency, you will grab a number from the waiting room corner, and I will get
to you as soon as I can. I will go in order from 1-10.
9. Assignments: We will complete almost all our assignments using pencils.
10. Turning in papers: When work is completed students will place it in the bin at the end of
their desks for me to get at the end of the day. If the work is not finished, then they will
place it in their folders to keep at school to finish during extra time.
Morning Routine

➢ When students come in the morning, they will unpack their bags
according to our procedure stated on the page before.
➢ Students will turn in their homework that is in their binder at the
front table near my desk.
➢ After students are unpacked, they will come to their carpet dot on
the carpet and sit at a level 0 criss cross applesauce.
➢ When all students are on the carpet, we will watch the morning
news quietly as I take attendance.
➢ After the news is done, we will move to our carpet circle and do
our morning greeting. The morning greeting consists of the teacher
stating the date, plans for the day, the special area for the day, and
a question for everyone to answer (usually a question such as What
is your favorite color)
➢ If students come in late, they will first report to the office. When
they are back in the classroom they will unpack quietly and join us.
Afternoon Routine

➢ Students will pack all of their things before science. This includes
filing away their paperwork into the keep or return side of their
binders.
➢ Before the bell rings our 2 classroom cleaners (changes weekly
according to classroom jobs) will wipe the tables using a Clorox
wipe and the other will sweep the floor
➢ Each table is dismissed by having a clean table and space. This
includes nothing on their tables, their headphones, belongings,
pencils, etc. need to be in the right area. Their floor needs to not
have any pencils, markers, crayons, or paper on the floor.
➢ After the tables are all in line the bus riders, extended day,
walkers, and after-school daycare will go out first to their
designated spot in the hallway. They will be accompanied by
another teacher here to walk them to where they will leave
school.
➢ I will walk all of the parent pick-up students to the parent pick-up
loop and help them get into their spots where an administrator
will accompany them.
Rewards and Consequences

● Classroom Rewards: I will have a jar that each time the whole class is on
task, following procedures correctly, or walking in line correctly I will put a
marble in. When the jar is a quarter of the way full, we will have extra
recess. When the jar is halfway full, we will get a movie day. When the jar is
full the class will get to pick what kind of party they would like. This could
include a sweets party, pajama party, pizza party, popcorn, and movie party,
etc..
● Classroom Consequences: When the whole class is not following rules or
procedures, gets a bad note from a substitute, or a bad report from a special
area teacher the class will have quiet time. This will consist of the whole
class putting their head down and I will have a talk with them about how we
can make better choices in the future.
● Individual Rewards: Individual rewards will be received when a student
does outstanding work, shows kindness, or is prepared. This will be
rewarded with a ticket that they will get to keep. Every Friday I will give the
students who have tickets the opportunity to exchange their tickets for
something in our class store or save it until next week and try to exchange
the tickets for a larger item. Each item will be worth a certain number of
tickets.
● Individual Consequences: Individual consequences are given when a student
is not following our rules and procedures. These consequences have levels.
For example, the student will first receive a nonverbal warning (such as a
look, a verbal warning, 2 minutes of sit-down time or walking laps at recess,
5 minutes of sit down time or walking laps at recess, call home, and then a
referral.
