I. MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS
1. Which is an example of a shrub?
(a) Spinach (b) Mango tree (c) Tomato plant (d) Lemon
2. Which of the following type of plants has thick, hard and woody stem?
(a) Tree (b) Shrub (c) Herb (d) All of these
3. Parallel venation is not found in
(a) sugarcane (b) peepal (c) maize (d) wheat
4. Leaf venation and type of root is correctly paired in
(a) parallel venation, fibrous roots (b) parallel venation, taproot

fibrous
roots

(c) Ovary, anther and filament (d) Filament and anther
8. Male reproductive part of flower is
(a) sepals (b) petals (c) stamens (d) pistil
9. Which one of the following is a function of leaves?
(a) Photosynthesis (b) Transpiration
(c) Both (a) and (b) (d) Support fruits
10. Which is not a part of a leaf?
(a) Petiole (b) Lamina (c) Veins (d) Nodes
II. ASSERTION AND REASON TYPE
DIRECTION: In the following questions, a statement of assertion (A) is
followed by a statement
of reason (R). Mark the correct choice as:
a) If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct
explanation of the assertion.
b) If both the assertion and reason are true but the reason is not the correct
explanation of the
assertion.
c) If assertion is true but reason is false.
d) If both assertion and reason are false.
1. Assertion: The minerals dissolved in water move up in stem along with
water.
Reason: The stem bears leaves, flowers and fruits.
b)If both the assertion and reason are true but the reason is not the correct
explanation of the assertion.
2. Assertion: Plants release a lot of water in to the air through the process of
transpiration.
Reason: The water is released through the leaves in the form of water vapour.
a) If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct
explanation of the assertion.
3. Assertion: Some mineral nutrients are essential.
Reason: They can be synthesized by the plants.
c)If assertion is true but reason is false.
4. Assertion: The parts of a typical flower are sepals and petals only.
Reason: The parts of stamen are filament and anther.
d) If both assertion and reason are false.
5. Assertion: Trees are plants which are very tall. They have a hard and thick
brown stem.
Reason: Lamina is thin, flat, broad, green part of leaf.
If both the assertion and reason are true but the reason is not the correct
explanation of the assertion.
III. VERY SHORT ANSWER
1. Name one plant which has reticulate venation?
Marigold plant which has reticulate venation.
2. What type of root wheat plant have?
Wheat has fibrous roots in their leaves.
3. Write the process by which plant make their food.
Photosynthesis is process by which plant make their food.
4. Name the tiny pores on the surface of a leaf.
Stomata
5. What is the function of chlorophyll?
Chlorophyll imparts green colour to the leaves.
6. Give some examples of plants having fibrous roots.
Millet, bamboo, sugar cane, etc
7. Define taproot.
A taproot is a straight tapering root which grows vertically down into the soil
and gives out branches on all the sides.
8. Name the different parts of flowers.
A flower consists of following parts:
1.Pedicel
2.Sepals
3.Petals
4.Stamens
5.Carpel
9. Define pollination.
Transfer of pollen grains from anther to stigma of a flower is known as
pollination.
10. List the main functions of root.
1.Root absorb water and nutrients from the soil which are needed by plant
leaves to make food.
2.Roots help in holding the soil together and thus prevents soil erosion
IV. SHORT ANSWER
1. Explain the process of preparation of food in leaves.
Refer my cw
2. What is the function of seed coat?
Seed is surrounded by a tough covering called seed coat. It protects the seed
from outer harsh environment.
3. Draw a labelled diagram of a flower.
4. Differentiate between herbs and shrubs.
Herb Shrubs
1. Have a single stem. 1. Have multiple branches.
2. Have a non-woody and soft stem. 2. Have thick and hard stems.
3. Herbs are called rootstock. 3. Shrubs are referred to as the
woody plant.
4. Examples - Rice, Wheat, Onion, 4. Examples - Orange, Rose Peach,
Grass, Lavender, etc.
5. After learning about types of roots Amrita was too curious to see types of
roots in different plants. She started uprooting plants from the garden.
Shweta, her friend and classmate, on seeing this stopped her and told her that
one can determine the kind of root by just seeing the leaves. We need not
require to uproot the plants.
(a) What are the two types of roots?
Two types of roots are taproot and fibrous root.
(b) How leaves can determine the type of roots?
The design made by veins in a leaf is called the leaf venation. The pattern of
leaf venation determines the type of roots present in a plant. If the leaf have
reticulate venation then it has taproot and if the leaf have parallel venation
then it has fibrous root.
(c) What value of Shweta is shown here?
Shweta is intelligent, eco-friendly and have scientific aptitude.
