Part A: Submission Format
The submission format is in the form of an Report including a case study. The report should be written in a concise
style. You are required to make use of headings, paragraphs, and sub-sections as appropriate. All work must be
supported with research and referenced using the Harvard referencing system (or an alternative system). You will need
to provide a bibliography using the Harvard referencing system (or an alternative system). Inaccurate use of

Leadership is a vital management function that helps to direct an organization's resources for improved efficiency and
the achievement of goals. Effective leaders provide clarity of purpose, motivate and guide the organization to realize its
mission. Leadership can be a decisive factor in the success of any business. Once being the pinnacle of success in
photography achieving more than $10 billion in revenue during in the 1980’s and the global leader in film and
photography, Kodak went into decline over the next three decades that culminated in the company filing for Chapter 11
bankruptcy protection on January 19, 2012 after having lost $1.76 billion over the proceeding 3 years because its
succeeding leaders failed to revitalize the company amidst several environmental changes (mainly the technological
shift and the on-growing competition in the industry). On the other hand, Apple went from strength to strength since
1996 after its co-founder Steve Jobs managed to return to the company and lead it out of bankruptcy to become the
most valuable company in the world and its products achieving cult-like popularity.

You have been onboarded in the HR department as the management consultant at KPMG Qatar. KPMG is a ‘Big
Four’ accounting firm that offers accounting, audit and business advising services to companies worldwide. Although
well known for its accounting and finance positions, there are other fields such as consulting, research and science,
and other opportunities with the firm.

You were assigned by your HR manager to write an essay for your fellow HR officers to raise their awareness of the
significant impact of leadership and management in achieving organizational goals and the challenges facing leaders
and managers in driving the company towards its strategic goals amidst the current challenges and contexts.
Specifically, this assigned task aims to examine the leadership and management theories and principles, and their
impact on the effectiveness of an organization in addition to creating an in-depth understanding of the influence of
different leadership and management styles on the organizational culture.
You were asked to include in the essay report a case study about a large organization in
Qatar of your choice.
Focusing on your chosen organization, critically evaluate the leadership and management
styles/theories and their impact on decision making and the factors that influence their
organizational culture.

Assignment activity

A. Examination of leadership and management theories and principles, and their impact
on the effectiveness of your chosen organization.

1. Explore and discuss different theories of leadership in relation to the management


activities in your chosen organization AND another organization also of your choice
(for comparison).

2. You must then Analyze the impact of the application of leadership and management
theories on the effectiveness of your chosen large organization.

B. Reviewing the influence of different leadership and management styles on the culture
of the two chosen organizations.

1. Assess the different leadership and management styles and their application in a
range of business situations in your chosen organization. You also then need to
compare the two organizations of terms of their leadership and management
styles impacting the decision making in the said organizations.

2. Evaluate the importance of organizational culture on the performance of different


chosen organization by examining the factors that influence the development of the
culture in the chosen organization.

3. Based on all your previous findings for this report, critically evaluate the impact of
different approaches to leadership and management.

Following on from your case study on leadership and management in action, you have now
been asked to present to the client (the same organization you had chosen) a devised
motivational strategy and application of leadership & management approaches for continuous
improvement. Your manager is expecting you to develop a motivational strategy to optimize
organizational performance for that client. Particularly, the client is aiming to optimize its
performance through application of a motivational strategy, leadership and management
approaches to ensure continuous improvement.
Assignment activity and guidance
You are asked to present the performance management techniques for continuous
improvement for your client organization. This will be followed with the creation of an
individually created motivational strategy. A motivation strategy is a plan that considers a
range of financial and non-financial incentives, for both successful performance and to
support unsuccessful performance.

Your Task

In an essay, you need to Produce a detailed and comprehensive motivational strategy for
your client organization that supports optimal achievement of organizational objectives. Your
motivation strategy should address intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. It should also
address all variables of motivation to enhance organizational performance.

Based on your produced motivational strategy, you are required to produce an essay that
cover the following aspects:

1. Introduction to the produced motivation strategy for your client organization.

2. You must apply appropriate leadership and management approaches for managing
performance and continuous improvement to a range of at least 2 business situations.

3. Assess the above applied leadership and management approaches and their role in
supporting continuous improvement.

4. Make recommendations of how the above stated performance management could


be improved to ensure there is continuous improvement.
