SUMMARY FORCE Grade 3

The document discusses force and friction. It defines force as a push or pull and provides examples of activities that involve pushing or pulling. It describes how force can cause objects to move, change direction, or change shape. It also discusses measuring force using a forcemeter and Newtons as units. The document then covers friction as a force that opposes motion between surfaces and how it depends on the type of surface. It explains how friction can be useful, such as for warmth or braking, but also a problem by causing wear. The document concludes by discussing how lubrication or wheels can reduce friction and the concepts of air and water resistance.

SUMMARY FORCE

A. WHAT CAN FORCE DO?

 Force is a oush or pull

 Many daily action involved push or pull.
 Activity involved Push : a. Flushing a toilet
b. Squashing toothpaste from a tube
c. throwing
d. pushing a car
e. hitting a moving baseball
f. pressing a piece of a dough
g. cutting an onion
 Activity involved Pull : a. putting a socks
b. lifting a school bag
c. holding back a moving cart
d. tugging a rope
 What are effects of the force?
i) When we push a car, the car will start moving and go faster
ii) When we hold back a moving cart, it slow down and stop
iii) When we hitting a moving baseball, it changes direction
iv) When we press a piece of dough, it changes the shape
v) When we cutting an onion, it changes the shape
vi) When we hitting a table tennis ball, it changes direction.
 There are many force of nature, such as earthquake, storms, and volcanoes. They can be strong
enough to move things and change their shape. They can cause a lot of damage.

B. What can We Use to Measure Force?

 Instrument can be use to measure force is Forcemeter

 Force are measured in the unit Newton (N)
 Sir Issac Newton is name of scientist which found a way to measure the size of a force.

C. What are effects the friction ?

 Friction is the force which opposes motion when two surface are in contact.
 A slidding coin slow downs because friction
 Force include friction which is affect by the surface
 Friction depends on the type of surface something is in contact. It is usually greater when the
thing is moving on a rough surface than on a smooth surface.

D. How can friction be usefull?

 Friction can be usefull in our daily lifes.

 Friction between moving surfaces produces heat. When we rub our hands together,
friction between our hands helps warm.
 Friction even walking it helps to walk without slipping
 Friction even holding a glass it helps us hold on the glass
 Friction helps slow down or stop moving things. Friction between the brakes and the
wheels of a moving ca hels the car slow down and stop.

E. How can friction be a problem?

 Friction can be a problem in our daily lives.

 Friction can cause wear and tear. Friction causes the soles of shoes to wear out. If the soles of
shoes are warn out, they cannot grip the ground well.
 Friction can produce heat that is not usefull.

F. What can we do to reduce friction

 We can reduce the unwanted effects of friction by adding lubricants to moving parts. Example of
lubricants are oil and wax. Another way is to use rollers or wheels.
 When something moves through air. there is friction between its surface and the air. This
friction is called air resistance
 We can feel air resistance when we run against wind
 When something moves through water, there is friction between its surface and the water. This
friction is called water resistance
 Rowing a boat requires a lot of effort because of water resistance.
