Motion Based Power Saver

INTRODUCTION

A Motion Based Power Saver is a very simple non micro-controller based on passive Infrared sensor also called as PIR Sensor.
We have implemented PIR based power saver project and connected to a light source . So, whenever there is a light
source there is a motion in the room, the light is turned on. This project is also known as PIR based home application or PIR based
Electrical application control .
The PIR sensor is a passive infrared sensor which detects change in infrared and accordingly gives output. This output is then used to
drive a relay using a BC547 Transistor which provides the necessary current required for driving the relay.
Energy conservation begins at home. Many times, we tend to forgot to switch off electrical appliances when not in use. This
not only results in high electricity bill but also in huge consumption of electrical energy. Setting up auto-switching devices that can
detect motion in a room and save power accordingly cost a lot. The auto switching device presented here cuts off power and turn off
electrical appliances accordingly.
With the looks of a modern home automation system, this device is easy to make and useful in our cost saving.
Lists of experiments

1. BT1306 Triac
2. MOC321 optocoupler
3. 330k ohm resistor
4. Micro-sized PIR sensor
Brief Discription about components

1. PIR Sensor either used for motion detection or it is used to detect the
human movement when. When it detects it detects some change, then it gets
triggered because it will work by taking the snapshot of the infrared
radiation signature of the room.
Typically used in intruder detection system and it is too
sensitive. It has configurable sensitivity as well as configurable trigger om time.
So, it allows you to set such that it will not trigger for pets but it triggers for
humans only.
The PIR sensor based power saver
circuit diagram is shown here. The
designing of the circuit can be done
by using various electrical and
electronic components like bridge
rectifier, PIR sensor, IC NESS, rectifier
diode etc. This circuit uses a pir
sensor to sense the peoples existence
using IR radiation when the public into
or goes away from the room.

ADVANTAGES

1 . PIR sensors will itself recover its cost by reducing our electricity bills and will further
our electricity cost for future .
2 . Very easy installation and can be installed by in-house technician itself .
3 . No separate wiring is required hence no addition installation.
4 . No modification is required and compiles with current aesthetics.
5 . Pay back within ten months according to residential meter and six months according to
construction meter.
DISADVANTAGES

1 . It upholds lower information rate transmission contrast with wired transmission .

2 . Infrared waves at high force can harm eyes .
3 . It underpins more limited reach and consequently it execution corrupts with longer
distances .
4 . In screen and control application , it can control just a single gadget at one time .
Additionally it is hard to control things which are not in (line of sight) . It requires view
among transmitter and collector to convey .
APPLICATIONS

• I t is used in motion detectors , security alarms , and automatic lighting applications .

• Common staircase , entrances , basement .
• Parking areas , garden lights .
• Living rooms , malls , ATMs .
• Changing rooms in shop .
• Offices , conference rooms .
• Corridors and many more .
