ool 1: The Letter of Commitment (LOC)

The initials F.I.T. mean, "Formalizing the Intention Tool" which aims to document the
collaboration of Management and workers to promote a culture of prevention in the workplace.
The tool is the actual Letter of Commitment (LOC) that is to be signed by both Management and
the Health and Safety Committee (SHC) or the worker's group representative, to signify their
support to improve their workplace for the safety, health, and wellness of everyone. This
document also manifests mutual cooperation between the management and workers in ensuring
healthy and safe workplaces towards productivity and sustainability.

F.I.T.-ool 1 or the LOC also means that both management and workers will collaborate to
attain a healthy workplace, by promoting strategies to address the seven (7) health Priority Areas
(PAs) as identified in the Health Promotion Framework Strategy (HPFS). The 7 PAs are linked to
potential health risk behaviors; thus, preventive interventions are advocated to workers for their
health, safety, and wellness, while at work.
The LOC, once signed, is a clear manifestation of support from the management to
initiate, implement and provide the necessary support, such as privileges, incentives (monetary
and non-monetary), logistics, funds, and other possible Staff support. On the other hand, the
signature of the SHC or the workers group representative or its equivalent, indicates the workers’
commitment to support the health promotion and disease prevention initiatives in the workplace;
not only in the context of mere compliance, but more importantly, for the protection of their
health, safety and wellness.
A suggested template/format is attached for easy reference and guidance, in the
preparation of the LOC.

HEALTHY WORKPLACE LETTER OF COMMITMENT

_(recognized Workers’s representative)__are committed to protect the health, safety and well-
being of the workers by instituting health promotion strategies that create a health-enabling
workplace through health policies, health promoting work environment, and personal health
resources including lifestyle in the workplace.

To attain the above-mentioned commitment, we hereby commit the following healthy


workplace strategies:

● Management:

o Develop healthy workplace enabling policies that support the promotion


of healthy behaviors among the workers,

o Provide the required physical and psychosocial environment needed to


provide an enabling work environment conducive and supportive to the
health priority area/s relevant to the workers needs and interest.

o Develop the required personal skills of the workers through provisions of


relevant capacity building, life skills activities, and relevant health
information to support the health priority area/s relevant to the workers’
needs and interest.

o Provide support and funding to foster strong family ties including


relationships among workers and community involvement in actions,
programs, projects and other opportunities or platforms of the company
and its workers in local policy and decision-making processes that
contribute to their health status; and
o Facilitating access to promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative
health services to the workers in support to the priority area/s relevant to
the workers need and interest

o Seek and adopt best practices for continuous improvement of individual


health seeking behavior.

● Workers:
o Adhere to all the health and safety protocols and other health and safety-
related policies of the management.

o Participate in the planning, development, implementation and monitoring


and evaluation of all programs, projects and activities related to healthy
and safe behaviors.

o Seek and adopt best practices for continuous improvement in the health
seeking behavior of workers.

o Practice and advocate healthy and safe behaviors, even when outside the
workplace; especailly at home.
