WEEKLY REPORT FROM BONNY DIVISION
During the week under review, the Division maintained security measures of routine patrol,
surveillance and protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, and enforcement
of Government policies and programs.

EXCITEMENT AS WORK BEGIN ON AKIAMA BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION


On the 30 Apr 24 at about 0900hours, at Bonny Island, the residents of Bonny Island upbeat
as reconstruction work begins on the Akiama bridge almost a year after it collapsed.
A fact-finding to the site of the bridge revealed ongoing work by Evomec Global Services
Limited a construction confirm.
A source within the Bonny Local Government Council, who preferred anonymity, hinted
that the company deployed to site after talks were concluded between the Local
Government Council and the company.
Relatedly, at the project site, work was ongoing to excavate the top soil which is not
adequate to sustain the strength of the bridge.
Residents of the area commended the Bonny Local Government Area Chairman, Dame
Hon. Anengi Barasua Claude-Wilcox, DSSRS, JP, for her thoughtfulness, expressing the
hope that given its antecedents, Evomec will deliver a good job.
Accordingly, one Atonye disclosed that the Local Government Area Chairman has tried
for them, seeing Evomec at site, that she felt so happy because they always do a good job.
One of the workers disclosed on condition of the anonymity that “the rebuilding process
will be thorough, the ground preparation is on now, and they are excavating the canal and
the top soil around it. That the foundation will be consistent with the quality assurance
standard so that when completed the bridge’s lifespan will be sustainable.

The kick-start of the reconstruction work is in fulfilment of the assurance by the Local
Government Area Chairman, to not only rebuild the bridge but ensure it is sustainable and sturdy
to handle the traffic in that axis of the Island.

2024 WORKERS DAY CELEBRATION IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

On 1st May 24 at about 1130hours, at the council secretariat, Bonny Island, the workers in the Local
Government Area joined their counterpart in the world to celebrate the 2024 workers day.
Relatedly, the Head of Local Government Administration (HLOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA)
Mr. Anele Okere, and the NULGE Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area Comr. Doris
Francis Hart, in their separate remarks commended the Bonny Local Government Chairman on
behalf of the workers, for her modest efforts in ensuring workers welfare, assuring of their continue
synergy in furtherance of her people driven plans for the Local Government Area.
Consequently, the Bonny Local Government Chairman, Dame Hon. Anengi Barasua Claude-
Wilcox, DSSRS, JP, extolled their sterling contributions to the effectiveness and efficiency of her
administration, noting that their efforts have ensured that the people of Bonny Local Government
Area continue to enjoy optimum service delivery and good governance.
Referencing her efforts in improving the lives of her staff such as the rehabilitation of the Local
Government Council Secretariat, rebuilding of the council store, renovation of the council
auditorium and reroofing of the old council building. She revealed that all these were geared
towards fostering a more work-friendly environment for them.
She further pointed out that the prompt payment of salaries, emoluments and entitlements were to
demonstrate that her staff were indeed dear to her heart.
She also referenced the rebuilding of the Bonny Integrated Recruitment Centre (BIRC) and
Sanitation of the mode of operations there, disclosing this was to foster a more seamlessly work
environment and engagement protocols.
However, the Chairman of Bonny LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, also pointed to the seamless
synergy with the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and other allied
workers union in pursuance of worker welfare. She asserted that the unique and invaluable
contributions of workers to drive governance initiative, implement public policies and engender a
people-oriented leadership, especially in the grassroots cannot be overemphasized.
She hailed the workers for the expertise experience and exceptional passion, they infuse into their
work, stressing that these were sterling qualities that the world is celebrating them for, urging them
to keep it up.
Highpoint of the event was interactive session on
a) Work procedure and ethics by Faith Pepple
b) Stress and work by Tonye Lawson Jack
c) Retirement and pension by Comr. Frank Allison.
Free medical test on BP and sugar, presentation of Awards to deserving staff with plagues and cash
prizes for exemplary service delivery in the line of duty.
In the same vein, at about 1700hours, at Government Lodge Bonny Island, the Executive of Bonny
Local Government Area, Hosts, appreciates workers of the Local Government Area at a special
dinner, where workers under aegis of the National Union of Local Government Employees
(NULGE) led by Comr. Doris Francis Hart and Senior Staff members led by Mr. Anele Okere were
jointly hosted to a dinner event in the spirit of 2024 workers day celebration in the Local
Government Area.
Dignitaries in attendance amongst other includes, Hon. Warisenibo Omoni Longjohn, Vice
Chairman Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Raph Sotonye Jamaica, Secreatry to Council,
Iwarilama Brown, Chief Orientation and Mobilization Officer, National Orientation Agency
(NOA) Bonny and Heads of security agencies in the Local Government Area.

Action Taken: our personnel were adequately deployed to ensure a peaceful and successful
celebration in the Local Government Area.
The event ended peacefully at about 2000hours.

SECURITY SITUATIONS IN THE WEEK UNDER REVIEW


The Division worked in Synergy with sister agencies to ensure that lives and properties are secured
and we are also working hard to maintain the relative peace in the Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, our areas of responsibility (AOR), were equally protected against vandalism.
