GENERAL INFORMATION
INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
2. Where scales are not stated, the full size should be applied.
4. When first-angle or third-angle is not specified, the choice of projection is left to the
candidate’s discretion, in which case the type of projection used MUST be clearly stated.
5. The candidate should use his/her own judgement to supply any dimensions or other details
not directly shown on the drawings.
7. Each candidate MUST enter his/her school code and registration number in the appropriate
space at the bottom of the drawing paper.
SECTION A
MODULE 1 — GEOMETRY 1
1. Figure 1 shows the framework for a point, P, which moves so that its distance from the circumference
of two circles as well as from their centres O1 and O2 is always in the ratio 2:3. The radii of the
two circles are 20 mm and 15 mm respectively.
Figure 1
(c) Sketch, freehand, an ellipse with minor and major axes of 50 mm and 100 mm respectively.
(i) Chord
(d) Figure 2 shows the loudspeaker grill of a car radio. The grill is rectangular with an elliptical
hole.
Figure 2
(i) Draw the grill, full size, clearly showing the construction of the ellipse.
[9 marks]
(ii) Find the foci of the ellipse drawn in (d) (i). [2 marks]
Total 20 marks
Figure 3
(a) Determine the first and second moments of area of the figure. [16 marks]

SECTION B
MODULE 2 — GEOMETRY 2
3. Figure 4 shows two views of two spheres intersecting. The hidden details are not shown.
Figure 4
(b) Complete the curve of intersection in the plan view only. [13 marks]
Total 20 marks
Figure 5
Use the following information to construct the locus of the point O when the crank, CD, makes
one complete revolution.
• When there are two cranks of the same size rotating, they can both make a complete revolution.
• When there are two cranks of different sizes rotating, only the small crank can make a complete
revolution. The larger crank reciprocates and it is constrained.
Total 20 marks
SECTION C
Figure 6
(b) Project the complete performance diagram for a knife edge follower. [9 marks]
Total 20 marks
Figure 7
(a) Draw the front elevation of the adjustable spanner with its parts fully assembled.
[15 marks]
(b) Use balloon referencing to identify each component of your drawing. [3 marks]
(c) List all components of the adjustable spanner in a parts list with the relevant headings and
notes. [2 marks]
