COMPANY BACKGROUND

Ion Exchange (India) Limited is the leading water treatment company in India and one of
very few in the world with a comprehensive range of technologies, products and services,
which covers the entire spectrum of water and wastewater treatment.

Ion Exchange India was the first company in India to make world class Ion exchange resins
in 1964 and since then has developed many new ion exchangers, which equal the best. We
have 41 years of experience too in the design and supply of water and wastewater treatment
plants - packaged, pre-engineering and custom built. We have supplied more than 40,000
plants in India and abroad of which over 400 installations are at thermal and nuclear power
plants, fertilizer factories, refineries, petrochemicals and other industries. We have executed
over US $ 25 million World Bank funded projects in India, secured against global
competition as well as in Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. Our equipment, ion exchangers
and chemicals are exported to Japan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Srilanka, the Middle East, SE Asia,
Africa, Egypt, the Russia, and Europe. We are the first water treatment company in India to
be accredited the ISO 14001 Certification for our resin manufacturing plant at Ankleshwar &
Industrial Chemical Division and ISO 9001: 2000 for Engineering Division Instrumentation
Division.

Our range of products includes water, waste water treatment and recycling plants using
various physico-chemical processes for settling, clarification, filtration, disinfections,
membranes and ion exchange technology, ion exchange resins; polymers and
polyelectrolytes for water and non-water processes; boiler cooling water and fireside
treatment chemicals. We also offer technical services such as project management at site,
design, erection and commissioning, operation and maintenance of plant, and supply of
spares.

Our customer services division undertakes modification and rehabilitation of existing plants
through process modification to augment capacity and improve treated water quality largely
making the equipment more cost effective by use of the latest treatment techniques.

Our design team provides designs of the plant with optimum capital and operating costs. The
contract execution team, working with latest techniques, provides timely completion of
projects.

Providing prompt and efficient service to our esteemed customers has been our prime
concern. To fulfill this we have established a regional office at Mumbai, Calcutta, Delhi &
Chennai who provide the service through a wide network of trained dealers and agents
throughout their region. Further, to strengthen the service, we have opened service
companies in the regions along with the dealers. These companies provide efficient after
sales services. We also have our overseas offices at Jakarta - Indonesia, Bangkok - Thailand,
Muscat - Oman, Nairobi - Kenya, Dhaka – Bangladesh, Singapore and Dubai -U.A.E.
We have a well-equipped R&D centre where scientist’s work on development of new
products and designs, upgrading of existing ones and indigenisation of foreign technologies
obtained through collaborations.

Our International Business is contributing major share in Company’s turnover. We have


100% Export Oriented Unit (EOU) to cater our International Business. A well equipped
Assembly centre with in-house Shot Blasting, Painting facility, which is located near
Mumbai, having very good access to both oil Mumbai Port Trust and New Jawaharlal Nehru
Port Trust. We avail facility from Government to and the sealed Containers duly stuffed from
EOU, which avoids formalities at the port.

We have successfully executed one of the world’s largest pretreatment plants of capacity
18000-m3/h capacities for PT. Bina Sarana Pengembang, Indonesia.

We have acquired state of the art technologies through licensing agreements with
specialist water treatment companies in USA, Europe & Japan.

Our experience in project engineering of major projects in India and abroad especially in
water treatment plant, demineralising plant, RO plant and other related technologies will be
added assets in our capabilities to handle this job.

Ion Exchange India have supplied more than 100 Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plants in India with
capacity ranging from 1 m3/h to 360 m3/h of permeate and have first hand experience in
design, engineering and installation of the RO plants.

We have supplied the R.O plant for desalination of Sea Water of capacity 183 m3/hr for M/s.
Gujarat Electricity Board, for their Sikka Thermal Power Station in India. This is first of its
kind plant in India. Subsequently, we have supplied R.O. plant for desalination of seawater of
capacity 200 m3/hr & 250 m3/hr to M/s. GHCL & M/s. Indian Rayon, respectively. We are
executing India’s largest Sea Water Desalination Plant for M/s. Chennai Petrochemical
Limited (CPCL) with capacity of 1100 m3/hr.

A decade of our experience has enabled us to develop adequate in house expertise in the
design of RO Plant.

Recently, we have entered into joint venture with Belgium based Waterleau and formed ION
EXCHANGE WATERLEAU LIMITED to expand our capabilities in Waste Water
Treatment area like Sequential Batch Reactor, Odour Control System, Anaerobic System and
making our company Technologically Self Sufficient in all respect.

Iron removal Filtration (OC) >

The raw water will be first passed through a open aeration system with NaOCl dosing (6
hours retention time Aeration tank/raw water tank-provided by client) for Disinfection &
oxidize iron Then raw water from a RCC storage tank/aeration tank will be fed to the iron
removal filter by a raw water feed pump In irom removal filter water will be passed through
catalytic media, which oxidize the dissolve iron ( Ferrous) to Ferric.

Multigrade Sand Filtration >

Water from Iron removal filter will passed through a .Multigrade sand filter is a depth filter
that makes use of coarse and fine media mixed together in a fixed proportion. This
arrangement produces a filter bed with adequate pore dimensions for retaining both large
and small suspended particles. This filter performs at a substantially higher specific flow
rate than conventional filters. Specific flow rates have been successfully obtained for
treating waters to produce iron free, suspended solids and turbidity free water.

Activated Carbon Filter >


The water from Multigrade Filter then feed to Activated Carbon Filter for removal of organic
impurities.
Backwash:Water is passed upwards through the column from bottom to top and then
discharged to the drain for 10 minutes or till the effluent is clear, at required flow rate. This
results in removal of free impurities from the sand bed.
Rinse:Water is passed downwards through the column. The water flows out through the
bottom collector and flows to drain. The required flow rate is maintained by use of Rota
meter till the effluent is clear for approx. 5 minutes.

DM >

The raw water will be passed through a cation exchanger unit ( SAC) which contains strong
acid cation exchange resin. The cations like Ca++,Mg++,Na+ and K+ present in water get
exchanged with H+ ions.
Cation exchanger bed is regenerated in counter current mode to ensure low sodium slip.

Effluent water from the strong acid cation exchanger is fed to degasser tower to reduce
carbon dioxide content.

REVERSE OSMOSIS PLANT :

It comprises of filter feed pumps , CF unit membranes system with skid along with HPP
pumps and necessary accessories and mounting , instruments like flow meters,
conductivity meter , ph meters ORP system , dump valves , LPS & HPS for its safety
operation and CIP cleaning system .

Micron Cartridge Filter:

The filtered water from DMF will be passed through the micron cartridge filter of 5
micron rating to ensure removal of fine suspended solids. When the pressure difference
across the cartridge filter goes beyond set value, the cartridges are to be replaced
manually. The filtered water from Micron Cartridge Filter shall be pumped by means of
high-pressure pump through the Membrane assembly, where under high pressure
process of reverse osmosis takes place and dissolved impurities are reduced.
Reverse Osmosis:

Osmosis is natural process. When a dilute solution is separated from a concentrated


solution by a semi permeable membrane, pure solvent flows from the dilute solution to
the concentrated one through the membrane. If the solvent concerned is water, then
pure water, separated from a salt solution by a semi permeable membrane readily
passes through the membrane. The concentrated solution becomes dilute with this
flow of pure water. This flow of water continues until the pressure created by the
osmotic head equals the osmotic pressure of the salt solution. This is known as
“Osmotic Equilibrium”.

If an external pressure is applied on the concentrated solution side, then one of the
following three processes can occur:

If the applied pressure is less than the osmotic pressure, then pure water continues to
flow through the membrane. Its flow rate gets reduced, as it is proportional to the
difference between applied pressure and the osmotic pressure.

If applied pressure is equal to the osmotic pressure, then the net flow of pure water
through the membrane stops.

If applied pressure is greater than the osmotic pressure, then the pure water flow is
reversed. It flows from the concentrated solution to the dilute solution side.

This third process is “Reverse Osmosis”. It is advantageously used to remove water


from the concentrated solution.
During Reverse Osmosis (R.O) process, pressure is continuously applied to the feed
stream by means of a high-pressure pump. Feed stream gets divided into a ‘permeate’
stream-low in dissolved salt sand brine (or reject) stream very high in dissolved salts
content. Dissolved salts rejected by the membrane are continuously flushed from the
system viz. brine stream.

Effluent water from RO is fed to degasser tower to reduce carbon dioxide content.

The degasser tower is a packed column of polypropylene pall rings where, decatonised water
is distributed from top of the packing and meets with a countercurrent stream of air supplied
by degasser blower. In the scrubbing action carbonic acid, being a weak acid, is broken into
water and carbon dioxide. The air containing liberated carbon dioxide is vented and
degassed water is collected in the degassed water tank from where it is pumped to the
downstream anion exchanger.

The degassed water will be passed through a strong base anion unit where the anions like
So4--, Cl--, No3-, residual CO2 and Silica will be removed.

MIXED BED

The degassed water will be finally passed through a mixed bed unit to achieve the
desired quality of treated water as specified in annexure III.

SCHEDULE OF EXCLUSIONS

1. All civil work including Structural design and construction of foundations, sumps, pits,
collection tanks, storage tanks, supports of all types, Platforms, Plant building, etc. (We
shall provide GA diagram & load data).

2. Acid/alkali proof lining of required areas like Neutralizing Pit / sumps, chemical handling
areas, etc.

3. Electrical works like Power & Control Cables with cable tray, underground earthing,
Lighting systems for area and Plant illumination necessary for Plant operation and
maintenance (including materials and erection).

4. Earthing and Lightning protection for equipment and steel structures.

5. All regenerant & dosing chemicals for operation of the plant including first charge.

6. Loading-Unloading, storage, insurance and security of equipment at site.

7. Skilled, unskilled labor, supervisory staff, tools and tackles required for erection of the
plant and commissioning of the plant. We shall provide supervision of erection and
commissioning of the plant by our engineer on the terms and conditions mentioned in our
offer.

8. Laboratory facilities including necessary instruments, chemical & staff.

9. Lubricants, oils and grease, regenerant for continuous operation of plant.

10. Feed Tank, Product Tank and a Product Water Transfer Pump.

11. All necessary termination points are specified hereunder.

12. Any specific equipment not specifically mentioned in this proposal.

Above price is Ex-Dhaka, including of AIT, Vat & Forwarding charges (from Savar to Singair
Rd.).

Payment
50% payment will be made in advance along with work order

40% payment will be made against readiness of material just before delivery. You are
requested to inspect the goods at our warehouse before dispatch the material.

Remaining 10% payment will be made within 30days from the date of commissioning or
within 45days from the date of supply of material, which comes early.

Delivery:
We shall complete the supply of equipment within 6 - 8 weeks from the date of receipt of
commercially clear purchase order and work order.

Validity:
Our offer is valid for a period of 30 days from date of this quotation.

Guarantee/Warrantee:
The equipment supplied is guaranteed for the period of 12 months, from the date of
commissioning or 18 months from the date of last major supply, whichever is earlier.
Equipment guarantee is valid against defective workmanship and /or poor performance of the
system only. Our liability is limited to repair or replace the same and not subject to any wear
and tear or supply of consumable and spares due to regular operation of the system. For any
outstanding payment Ion Exchange would have right to suspend warranty support
Statutory Variation:
Any change in Govt., duties levies, taxes or policies having direct effect on our above quoted
prices will be at customers account for which documentary evidence will be submitted on
request.

Force Majeure Clause:


Our offer is subject to the acceptance of Force Majeure Clause such as Strike, Lockout, Non
availability of raw materials, or Acts of God such as Fire, Flood, Drought, Earthquake, etc.
