Preparation:

Introducing Conjunctions (5 minutes)

 Display lesson 1, presentation 5, slide 1.


 Select a student to read the sentences at the top of the slide aloud.
 Point to the combined sentence at the bottom and elicit which word goes in the gap.
 Reveal the missing word and drill the pronunciation.
 Repeat this process on slides 2–3.
 Move to slide 4 and review the sentences.
 Reveal and underline 'and', 'but' and 'or'.
 Ask comprehension-check questions:
o Sentence 1: Does he want to eat cake? (yes) / Does he want to drink milk? (yes)
o Sentence 2: Does he want to eat cake? (yes) / Does he want to drink milk? (no)
o Sentence 3: Does he want to eat cake? (no) / Does he want to drink milk? (no)

Identifying Conjunctions (6 minutes)

 Display lesson 1, presentation 1, slide 4 and have the students open their Practice
Books to page 55, Activity A.
 Point to the first item and have a confident student read the gapped sentence.
 Elicit responses.
 Write the answer on the screen and have the students do the same in their Practice Books.
 Have the students complete the rest of the activity individually.
 Check the answers on the screen as a class.
Practicing Conjunctions (7 minutes)
 Select the text box and write the words 'and', 'but' and 'or' on the screen.
 Elicit different party activities from the students and write them on the screen below ‘and’, ‘but’,
and ‘or’.
 Make an example sentence with two vocabulary words and a conjunction. For example, 'I want
to hang streamers and blow up balloons.' Cross out the words on the screen.
 Select a student and have him/her choose two new vocabulary words on the screen and make a
new sentence with a different conjunction.
 Continue the process so that each student makes at least one sentence.

Practicing Questioning with Conjunctions (7 minutes)

 Display lesson 1, presentation 1, slide 4 and have the students open their Practice
Books to page 55, Activity B.
 Point to 'play games' and check or cross the white circle.
 Say "I do/don't want to play games."
 Elicit whether the students want to play a game.
 Have them record their answers in their Practice Books using check mark for 'yes' or cross for
'no'.
 Have the students complete the rest of the left column individually.
 Select a student. Ask him/her what he/she wants to do at the party. Prompt him/her to make
sentences using 'and', 'but' or 'or'. For example, 'play games' followed by a check mark and
'make a cake' followed by a cross – 'I want to play games, but I don't want to make a cake.'
 Record the student's answers in the 'my friend' column.
 Compare your answers with the student's to check whether they are the same.
 Have the student ask someone else what he/she wants to do at the party. Continue the process
so each student has a chance to ask and answer.
 Listen for common errors and correct them at the end of the activity.

Reviewing Party Vocabulary (3 minutes)

 Display lesson 2, presentation 1, slide 1 and have the students open their Student
Books to pages 36–37.
 Say "balloons" and have the students race against each other to find the word in their Student
Books. Circle the word on the screen.
 Repeat this process with the remaining vocabulary words.
 Move to slide 2 and repeat.

Introducing Ordinal Numbers (5 minutes)

 Display lesson 2, presentation 2, slide 1.


 Point to the '1' on the calendar and elicit the number.
 Point to 'first' and say "January first".
 Drill the pronunciation.
 Point to the '2' on the calendar and say "January second".
 Drill the pronunciation.
 Repeat this with the remaining numbers on the calendar until the students are confident with
the structures.
o Note: Drill the pattern for 21st–29th. For example, twenty plus first, second, etc.
o Note: Focus on the pronunciation of the 'th' ending.

Identifying Ordinal Numbers (8 minutes)

 Select the Text Box tool and type four ordinal number answers (e.g. ‘A. 3rd’, ‘B. 24th’, ‘C. 12th’
and ‘D. 31st’) on the screen.
 Say a cardinal number (for example, three) and select the Answer tool and click ‘Release’.
 Have the students answer.
 Review the answer with the class.
 Award one point to each student who got the answer correct.
 Point to one of the answer options and select a student to say the ordinal number. If the student
can pronounce the word correctly, award another point. Repeat so each student has a chance to
say one of the ordinal numbers on the screen.
 Repeat the process with new ordinal numbers.

Forming Ordinal Numbers (6 minutes)

 Display lesson 2, presentation 1, slide 3 and have the students open their Practice
Books to page 56, Activity A.
 Underline the 'st' in 'first' and circle the letters ‘st’ in the ordinal number.
 Underline the 'nd' in 'second' and elicit the missing letters.
 Write the answer on the screen and have the students do the same in their Practice Books.
 Have the students complete the rest of the activity individually.
 Review the answers on the screen as a class.

Introducing Months of the Year (5 minutes)

 Display lesson 2, presentation 2, slide 3.


 Elicit what the students can see.
 Drill the vocabulary word and pronunciation.
 Reveal the example sentence and have a confident student read it aloud.
 Repeat this process for slides 4–14.

Writing Months of the Year (8 minutes)

 Display lesson 2, presentation 1, slide 3 and have the students open their Practice
Books to page 56, Activity B.
 Point to the first item and elicit the first month of the year. Have a confident student read the
word.
 Point to the next item and elicit the second month of the year. Elicit what letter February starts
with.
 Write the answer on the screen and have the students do the same in their Practice Books.
 Point to the next item and elicit what month it is. Select the Responder tool and click ‘Start’.
 Have the students click in the circle as fast as they can.
 Have the fastest student answer (‘March’). Ask the student what letter March starts with. Award
a trophy if the answer is correct.
 Write the answer on the screen and have the students do the same in their Practice books.
 Repeat the activity with the next item.
 Have different students read the dates in full. For example, January thirty-first.
 Repeat until all of the students have had a chance to practice reading.
 Correct any errors in pronunciation.
