In recent years, traffic jams have increasingly become a serious issue around the world, especially

in large cities. Several factors can lead to this worrying problem. In this essay, we will discuss these reasons
and how to solve them properly.

First and foremost, traffic congestion is caused by a plethora of private vehicles running on the
streets, since people do not tend to use public transport daily. Along with the developments throughout
the years, a lot of citizens have been able to buy their cars or motorbikes, which results in their
understandable preference to drive them instead of traveling publicly in buses, trains, or subways.
Moreover, poor road construction is also an explanation for the bottleneck on the streets. Another major
rationale for congestion problems is people’s awareness and driving habits. Some drivers do not pay any
attention to controlling their vehicles, for instance, some keep using their phones while driving, while
others sometimes are distracted by people around them. In major cities, residents are self-efficient enough
to be able to access developed technologies and vehicles, which is why traffic congestion appears in these
areas so frequently.

To deal with this problem, the government should make improvements in the construction and
maintenance of the streets. Even though solving traffic jams may be a difficult mission, strict laws and high
penalty fees are strong warnings to people. The leaders must make sure that citizens obey these rules
correctly. Ultimately, to reduce the frequency of traffic jams, the drivers themselves should be obedient
and follow the instructions. Not only can these new behaviors lower the congestion rate, but they will also
decrease the percentage of traffic accidents.

In conclusion, the uncontrollable number of private cars is the biggest reason causing traffic jams
in major areas. However, there are significant solutions to this issue, and the easiest one may be to
encourage people to improve their driving habits, as well as obey the rules strictly.
