I. Rationale

In the article "Hydroponics: Current Trends in Sustainable Crop Production (2023)," the issues and pros and

cons of using chemical hydroponic solutions are explored. One of the main advantages of chemical

hydroponic solutions is the precise control over nutrient composition, leading to faster growth rates and

higher yields. However, there are also concerns regarding the environmental impact of chemical solutions,

as they may require synthetic fertilizers and pesticides that can potentially contaminate water sources and

harm ecosystems. Additionally, the cost and complexity of implementing and maintaining a chemical

hydroponic system should be taken into consideration.

The researchers in this study selected apple and banana peelings extract as nutrient sources to grow lettuce

in a hydroponic solution. These fruit peels are rich in micronutrients and macronutrients that are beneficial

for plant growth. Apple peels contain essential nutrients such as potassium, phosphorus, and calcium, while

banana peels are a good source of potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus. By utilizing these natural

extracts, the researchers aim to provide a sustainable and organic approach to hydroponic lettuce production,

reducing the reliance on synthetic chemical solutions.

In conclusion, this proposed study on using apple and banana peelings extract as nutrient sources in

hydroponic lettuce production holds significant importance. By exploring alternative and sustainable options

for hydroponic solutions, the research aims to address the environmental concerns associated with chemical

hydroponic systems. The study's findings will contribute to a better understanding of the potential benefits

and challenges of utilizing natural extracts in hydroponics. Ultimately, this research proposal emphasizes the

need for further investigation into sustainable and organic approaches to hydroponic farming, promoting

environmentally friendly and resource-efficient agricultural practices.

II. Research Questions

1. Will apple and banana peelings extracts be a effective organic hydroponic solution?

2. How will the apple and banana peelings extracts affect and contribute to lettuce’s growth and quality of a

lettuce in a hydroponic system?

3. Will the extracts from apple and banana peelings make a significant impact to the quality of the lettuce?

4. Can the following extracts from apple and banana peelings speed up the growth of the lettuce?

5. Is the organic hydroponic solution be more effective than a chemical hydroponic solution?

III. Hypothesis

If in order to create a effective hydroponic solution the following fruits used apple and banana must contain

both micro and macro nutrients in a result the following fruit extract combined together will make a impact

towards the quality and growth of a lettuce in a hydroponic system.
