GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Each candidate should have the following for this examination:

Traditional Drawing Method

Two sheets of drawing paper (both sides may be used)


Drawing instruments
Drawing board and tee square
Metric scale rule

Computer-Aided Drafting Method

A minimum ofsix sheets of size (s}" x 11 ") OR three sheets size (11" x 17") paper
Personal Computer with monitor, keyboard, mouse and printer
Computer-Aided Drafting Software

N.B. ALL solutions to questions attempted for this Option MUST be submitted, printed on
sheets of paper.

2. All dimensions are given in millimetres unless otherwise stated,

3. When first-angle or third-angle is not specified, the choice of projection is left to the
candidate's discretion, in which case the type of projection used MUST be clearly stated.

4. The candidate should use his/her own judgement to supply any dimensions or other details
not directly shown on the drawings.

5. The number of each question answered MUST be written next to the solution.

6. Each candidate MUST enter his/her school code and registration number in the appropriate
space at the bottom right-hand corner of the drawing paper.

BUILDING DRAWING

This paper has TWO sections: Working Drawing, and Sketch and Design OR 3D Solid Model
Design Drawing.

Answer ONE question from Working Drawing, and ONE question from Sketch and Design OR
3D Solid Model Design Drawing.

Candidates MAY use EITHER the Traditional Drawing Method OR the Computer-Aided Drafting
Method.

Working Drawing
Answer ONE question from this section.
Do NOT spend more than 2 hours on this question.

1. The outline of a floor plan for a three-bedroom residence is shown in Figure 1, on the enclosed
sheet. The building is to be covered with a gable roof as shown in the drawing.

(a) Draw to a scale of 1:50, the FULL SECTIONAL DRAWING A-A to include:

(i) Foundation details


(ii) Floor construction
(iii) Wall details
(iv) Roof details
(v) At least THREE vertical dimensions

Show clearly ALL sectional details.

(b) Draw, to a scale of 1:20, the sectional wall detail at "B" to show the foundation to roof
detail and to include the window detail. The eave is of open construction.

Show clearly ALL construction details.


Label all main construction members.
Print a suitable title and scale used at the base of EACH drawing.
Dimensions not given are left to the candidate's discretion.

Specifications:

Doors: External- flush door, 900 wide x 2000 high


Internal- flush door, 750 wide x 2000 high
Windows: W 1 - Awning type, 1200 wide x 1200 high
w2- Glass louvres, 600 wide X 600 high
Walls: External- concrete blocks- 150 mm thick with 10 mm plaster on both
sides
Internal- concrete blocks- 100 mm thick with 10 mm plaster on both
sides
Foundation: Reinforced concrete, continuous strip footing, 200 mm thick x 600 mm
wide
Roof: Gable roof with 450 mm overhang

2. The outline of a floor plan for a residence, consisting of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, living
room, dining room, kitchen and a porch is shown in Figure 1, on the enclosed sheet.

(a) Draw to a scale of 1:50, the completed floor plan to show:

(i) Wall thicknesses


(ii) All doors and windows
(iii) Kitchen appliances and base cupboards
(iv) Bathroom fixtures
(v) Names of all rooms
(vi) 10 main external dimensions
(vii) 2 overall dimensions

(b) The foundation for the building consists of simple strip footings beneath the foundation
wall. Draw, to a scale of 1:50 and in accordance with standard drawing practice, the
foundation plan for the building. Label and dimension foundation and footings.

Show clearly ALL construction details. Print a suitable title and scale used at the base of
EACH drawing.

Dimensions not ~iven are left to the candidate's discretion.

Sketch and Design OR 3D Solid Model Design Drawing

Answer ONE question from this section.

3. Make a neat, well proportioned sketch to show the sectional view of a reinforced concrete, straight
flight external stair. Include hatching to show material representation and show ALL steel
reinforcement. Label ALL main components of the stair. (20 marks)

4. Draw a neat, well proportioned, 3 dimensional pictorial sketch to illustrate an elevation of a


casement window. Label ALL members clearly.
