Read the passage about five reasons to work out. Decide if each of the statements is T (TRUE), F
(FALSE) or DS (DOESN’T SAY)
FIVE REASONS TO WORK OUT
1. Exercise can completely change your mood!

3
When you work out, your body produces endorphins, which will give you a rush of euphoria and
happiness. You will feel better after a workout than you did before it. Next time you’re having a bad day,
try going for a fast-paced run or taking a spinning class, and the day won’t seem so bad after all.
2. Exercising is sociable.
Whenever I move to a new city to study or work, I look for exercise classes to do. You meet like-minded
people, you can support each other during a difficult workout and you all share a collective feeling of
euphoria when the class finishes!
3. Exercise makes you feel confident.
We all know the physical effects of exercise on our bodies but we don’t always talk about the mental
effects. Exercise might give you a feeling of confidence from being comfortable with your body and
appearance. This new confidence might even help in your social or work life.
4. It helps to relieve stress.
Focusing on lifting weights or going for a run can help you forget the problems and stress of daily life,
studies or work. During exams, I always spend an hour a day in the gym. It makes me feel less anxious and
it also helps me to sleep those important eight hours the night before a big exam.
5. Finally, exercise makes us feel strong, fit and healthy!
Every day, the 20 minutes on the treadmill gets easier, the weights feel lighter and you feel a great sense of
achievement. It's a great feeling doing something you couldn’t do before and knowing it’s a result of your
hard work.

36 Euphoria is a result of endorphins from working out. _______

37 The feeling of euphoria lasts for a long time after exercise classes _______
38 Exercise has no influence on our mental health. _______
39 Study stress can be reduced by running. _______
40 Exercise results in a great sense of work achievement. _______

THE END

51 Junk food, which contains high levels of fats, salt and sugar and lacks nutrients such as fibre, vitamins
and minerals. is still appealing to teenagers.
52 1. Exercise improves your mood
53 When you exercise, your body produces endorphins giving you a rush of euphoria and happiness which
leads to a better feeling after a workout. If you’re having a stressful day, a fast-paced run, a spinning
class or a gym session can help you destress after a bad day because physical activity stimulates various
brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier, more relaxed and less anxious.
54 2. Exercise is sociable.
55 Exercise and physical activity can be enjoyable as they give you a chance to unwind, enjoy the
outdoors or simply engage in activities that make you happy. You can be connected with friends or
even like-minded people in a fun social setting like a gym or an aerobics class. In addition, you can
support each other during a difficult workout and a collective feeling of euphoria can be shared after the
class.
56 3. Exercise increases your confidence
57 The physical effects of exercise on our bodies are clear but the mental effects are not always mentioned.
When you exercise regularly, you may also feel better about your boby, your appearance and yourself .
This boosts your confidence and improve your self-esteem which might even help in your social or
work life.
58 4. Exercise relieves stress
59 Stress comes in many forms and produces many symptoms like worries, restlessness, insomnia or
panic. Running, aerobic exercise or weight lifting can help you forget the problems and stress of daily
life, studies or work. During exams, for example, if you spend an hour a day in the gym, it will make
you feel less anxious and help you to sleep those important eight hours the night before a big exam. If
athletes and patients can derive psychological benefits from exercise, so can you.
60 5. Exercise makes you strong, fit and healthy
61 Regular physical activity can improve your muscle strength and boost your endurance. Exercise
delivers oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and helps your cardiovascular system work more
efficiently. And when your heart and lung health improve, you have more energy to tackle daily chores.
So take a dance class, hit the hiking trails or join a soccer team or any outdoor activities you are
interested in to get more active throughout your day.
