Matrix IP Camera: IVA Events Configuration

6th December 2019

Document Version: V1R1

This document includes steps to configure various IVA (Intelligent Video Analytics) Events in
Matrix IP Camera.

Intelligent Video Analytics (IVA) is a technology that uses software algorithms to automatically identify
specific objects, behaviour or attitudes in video streams. Matrix IP Cameras supports the following
IVA events:

Motion
TripWire
Intrusion
Tamper

After configuring IVA for the mentioned events, you can receive alerts such as SMS, E-Mail, Alarm, etc
whenever the above mentioned events are detected.

Prerequisites:
1. The camera should be perfectly mounted for clear view and proper detection.
2. Your computer and the IP Camera should be connected with reliable connectivity.

Matrix IP Camera is configured using the webpage of the camera. Follow the steps mentioned below to
open the webpage of the camera:

Open a web browser on your computer.

Enter the IP address of the camera and press the Enter key.

Enter the admin username and password.

The homepage will appear as shown below:

Go to Configuration.

The configuration screen appears as shown below:

Let us now configure Intelligent Video Analytics (IVA) for various events one by one:
1. Motion Detection
Motion Detection is an IVA event which involves detection of motion in a selected area or zone. You can
also set action when motion is detected.

Follow the steps mentioned below to set up motion detection:

Go to Event from the left pane.

Go to Event Configuration → Motion Detection.

Tick the Enable flag to enable Motion Detection.

Click on the live view and drag it to cover the area for motion detection. The area covered appears
in red as shown below:
Re-detect After Every: Enter value in seconds (1 to 3600) to specify after how much time camera
should re-detect Motion after the previous detection. If 60 seconds is entered, the camera will
detect Motion after every 60 seconds.

Set the Sensitivity of detection:

a. Move the slider towards the left or right to set Sensitivity.
b. Or you can also enter a numerical value between 1 to 100.

Sensitivity depends on the amount of motion detected in each block of the selected area.
i. If there is low amount of motion. keep the sensitivity low.
ii. If there is high amount of motion, keep the sensitivity high.

Set the Threshold for detection:

a. Move the slider towards the left or right to set the desired threshold.
b. Or you can also enter a numerical value between 1 to 100.

Threshold is associated with the number of blocks in which the motion has crossed the configured
threshold level.
Eg: If Threshold is configured as 30, then motion should be available in 30 percent or more of the
selected area.
i. If there is low amount of motion. keep the sensitivity low.
ii. If there is high amount of motion, keep the sensitivity high.
Click Save.

2. TripWire Detection
TripWire Detection is configured by placing a line on the boundary or entry or exit you need to monitor.
When someone crosses the line, you will get alert notification in real time. Let us see how to configure
TripWire detection:

Go to Event from the left pane.

Go to Event Configuration → TripWire.

The page appears as shown below:

Tick the Enable flag to enable TripWire Detection.

You can select upto 3 lines for detection.

Select Line 1, Line 2 or Line 3 from the drop down menu.

Tick the Active flag to activate the selected line.

Now, you can place the line at the desired position on the live view.
Drag the line by its ends to change the length of the line and rotate it.

Select the event as described below:

a. Trip: Select this event if line crossing is detected.
b. No Trip: Select this event if no line crossing is detected.

Trip Example: In an office, the number of entries and exits are monitored at the main gate. Whenever
someone crosses the virtual line on the main gate, Trip is detected.

No Trip Example: In a factory, a conveyor belt is continuously moving. When the conveyor belt stops
moving, No Trip is detected.

Select the direction of motion on the line as described below:

a. In: When the person crosses the line towards the Green arrow side.
b. Out: When the person crosses the line towards the Red arrow side.
c. In-Out: When the motion occurs in any of the directions.
Select the Object Size for detection by moving the slider
Or you can also enter a numeric value.
a. If the Object Size is small, detection accuracy will be higher.
b. If the Object Size is big, detection accuracy will be lower.

Click Save.

3. Intrusion Detection:
Intrusion Detection detects if an object enters or exits a surveillance zone. You can select the area where
you want to monitor entry or exit. Let us see how to configure Intrusion Detection:

Go to Event from the left pane.

Go to Event Configuration → Intrusion Detection.

The page appears as shown below:

Tick the Enable flag to enable Intrusion Detection.

Select the zone for detecting intrusion from the dropdown list. You can select up to 3 zones for
intrusion detection.
Tick the Active flag after selecting the desired zone.

Select an area on the live view. Click on the boundary of the box and drag it to change the detection
zone. The selected zone for detection appears as shown below:

Select the event from the dropdown list as described below:

a. Intrusion: Select this event to detect an object entering the zone.
For example: In a factory, human presence is restricted in an area. Intrusion is declared if a person
enters into the prohibited area.
b. No Trip: Select this event if no line crossing is detected.
For example: In a factory, a truck enters a zone in a specified duration (every 300 seconds). No-Intrusion
event is declared if truck is not detected entering the zone within 300 seconds.
Select the Direction of intrusion as described below:
a. Select In to detect an object entering the zone.
b. Select Out to detect an object leaving the zone.
c. Select In-Out to detect an object entering or leaving the zone.

Select the Object Size for detection by moving the slider or manually.
You can also enter an appropriate numeric value.
a. If the Object Size is small, detection accuracy will be higher.
b. If the Object Size is big, detection accuracy will be lower.

Enter Duration of detection.

Note: This field will be visible only if the Event is No-Intrusion.

a. If intrusion occurs within duration, the timer restarts.
b. If intrusion does not occur within duration, No-Intrusion event is declared.

Duration can be from 5 seconds to 3600 seconds.

The default No-Intrusion Duration is 5 seconds.

Click Save.

3. Tamper Detection:
Tamper Detection is an IVA event that detects View Tampering and View Blocking by any unwanted object.
Let us see how to configure Tamper detection:

Go to Event from the left pane.

Go to Event Configuration → Tamper Detection.

Tick the Enable flag.

Re-detect After Every: Enter value in seconds (1 to 3600) to specify after how much time camera
should re-detect Tamper after the previous detection. If 60 seconds is entered, the camera will
detect tamper event after every 60 seconds.

Sensitivity: Drag the slider to set the detection sensitivity level between 1 to 100. You can also enter
an appropriate numeric value.

Sensitivity depends on the amount of tamper detected in the area covered by the camera.

a. If the sensitivity is low, more tamper is required for detection.

b. If the sensitivity is high, less tamper is required for detection.
Click Save.

Actions:
Now, you can configure actions for the above IVA events. Matrix IP Cameras support Alarm, SMS and
Email. Please check a different document for configuring actions.
