TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson

Good morning teacher, good

Good morning Class! morning Classmates, it’s nice to
see you again!

How are you today? We’re good Ma’am!

It’s nice to hear. It’s good that you’re back. Last meeting we
had our virtual class. Who attended the virtual class?
Raise your hand!

What have we discussed during our virtual class? Last meeting we discussed
Yes Fritz? about the layers of the
atmosphere.

Very good! What are the different layers of the atmosphere? The layers of the atmosphere
Yes Nico? are:
Troposphere, Stratosphere,
Mesosphere, thermosphere and
Very good Nico! What is the role of the atmosphere in our exosphere.
planet?
Atmosphere has a lot of roles.
First, it gives all living things an
air to birth, it makes living
things to survive, it makes
water to exist, it protects us
from ultraviolet rays of the sun,
it keeps us warm and many
That’s absolutely correct Glenn! You have mentioned that more.
the Earth’s atmosphere keeps us warm. What do you think is
keeping the Earth warm and habitable by humans and other
living things?

B. Establishing Purpose for the lesson

In this lesson, the learners are expected to
1. Define greenhouse effect and global warming.
2. Relate the concept of greenhouse to the increasing
temperature of Earth’s atmosphere.
3. Cite solution to minimize the effects of global
warming.
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson

This morning we will play “Alive, Alert and awake. I will

flash 5 pictures which corresponds to your group. Once you
see the picture, all of your group member will stand. Are
you ready?
Group 1- Green
Group 2- House
Group 3- Gasses
Group 4 Trapped
Group 5- Heat

Good job class!

Those words mentioned in our group activity is related to
our topic today.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1

Have you been trapped in a comfort room or in any kind of
room? How did you feel? It’s hot and it’s suffocating
Ma’am!
That’s correct!

Have you ever seen this?

No Ma’am.

Yes Ma’am! I’ve seen that only

in online videos.

What do you think it is? What is this for?

It’s a house for plant.
That’s correct. This a greenhouse.

Greenhouse is a structure with walls and roof made chiefly

of a transparent material such as plastic or glass.

In you TLE Classes and EPP Classes in elementary, you were

taught that in growing plants needs to placed in a room
where amount of sunlight is enough for them to grow. This
greenhouse allows the plants to receive enough heat as the
transparent materials enable the sun to pass through but the
heat cannot escape. Therefore, the plants will be able to
receive enough heat.

As you can see, the greenhouse is a close structure which

means that the heat can’t get out. Therefore, the roof and the
walls trap the heat inside the greenhouse.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

The Earth’s atmosphere is compared to a greenhouse. In our

previous lesson you have learned about the composition of
atmosphere.

What is the composition of earth’s atmosphere? The atmosphere is composed of

Yes Ariana? 78% Nitrogen, 21% oxygen and
1% trace gases.

What gases composes the 1% trace gases in the atmosphere? They are mixture if carbon
dioxide, ozone, methane and
That’s correct! water vapor.
Like the glass in a greenhouse, the trace
gases have a similar effect on the Sun’s rays. They allow
sunlight to pass through,
resulting in the warming up of the Earth’s surface. But they
absorb the infrared
radiation coming from the Earth’s surface, keeping the
Earth’s temperature suitable for life on Earth.

The process by which the Earth’s atmosphere warms up is

called greenhouse effect, and the above mentioned trace
gases are referred to as ‘greenhouse gases.’

F. Developing mastery

The greenhouse effect is the Earth’s natural process of

warming itself. Without the greenhouse effect, Earth would
be very cold, too cold for living things, especially at night.

Greenhouse Gases- These are the gases that trap the sun’s
heat in the atmosphere.
The diagram below shows how the Sun’s rays are trapped
by the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere
The Earth will become
hottethan its normal
temperature.

What will happen to the earth when these greenhouse gases

become abundant in the atmosphere?
Yes Kyara?

Enhanced greenhouse Effect- Increases in the amount of

carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the Earth's
atmosphere

To much greenhouse gases in the atmosphere will result to

global warming.

Global Warming-It describes as the current rise in the

average temperature of Earth’s air and oceans.

Global means that all countries and

people around the world are affected even if that
country is not a major contributor of greenhouse
gases. Many scientists now agree that human activities
emit more greenhouses gases into the atmosphere,
making the natural greenhouse effect
stronger. Scientists are also saying that if we continue
on emitting greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, it
will have a dangerous effect on the Earth.

G. Finding Practical Applications of concepts and skills in daily living

ACCEPTABLE ANSWER

Question 1.
Motor vehicles’ burning of
fossil fuels releases greenhouse
gases which trap the heat in the
air

H. Making Generalizations and abstractions about the lesson

The Teacher will let the students answer.
1. What is a greenhouse effect?
2. What are the naturally occurring greenhouse gases?
3. What is the function of greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere? What are its importance?
4. When is enhance greenhouse effect takes place?
5. What is global warming?
6. What are some human activities that contribute to the
enhanced greenhouse effect and global warming?
