STAFF ON SITE
1 Staff who first noticed the medical 1. Do not leave the patient

2. Bring AMBU bag and assist the primary initiator of
CPR in giving rescue breaths as well as in the
rotation of cycles
3. Direct 2 other staff nurses to get crash cart,
intubation tray and oxygen cylinder with
defibrillator
4. Direct one staff nurse to call and confirm
intensive care units regarding bed availability in
case the situation warrants
Security staff 1. Clear the area of crowd and make way for the
smooth arrival of the code blue team
2. Clear the area of onlookers and patient relatives
also Clear the area of obstructions
Communications department 1. Announce code blue immediately (3 times)
2. Call Code blue team leader and inform about the
location
CODE BLUE TEAM
Members 1. Intensivist /anesthetist –Team leader
2. EMRI technician-2
3. ICU Staff nurses-3
4. ICU resident doctor-1
5 Intensivist /anesthetist –Team 1. Coordinate the meeting of entire code blue team
leader everyday in all shifts as soon as the shift starts
2. Arrive on site as fast as possible whenever code
blue is announced (Within 3 minutes )
3. Direct and oversee the code blue process and
response process for its appropriateness
4. Take clinical decision in the best interest of the
patient
5. Analyze the Rhythm of patient for suitability of
shocking
6. To order the team members for appropriate
medication

6 ER technician Take handover from the unit staff nurses who


initiated CPR and continue CPR in rotation as per
the team leaders instruction
7 ICU Nursing staff  1 staff nurse will write medications which are
ordered by CODE blue team leader
 2 staff nurses will be engaged in loading ,
administering and monitoring medications
8 ICU resident doctor  To coordinate with nursing staff and EMRI
technicians and code blue team leader regarding
all processes of code blue
 To start Intubation immediately
