JOB DESCRIPTION: CERTIFIED LIFEGUARD

All candidates must speak English fluently to remain employed with Premier Pool Management, Inc (PPM). While on duty all
lifeguards employed by PPM must be able to perform the following tasks:

 Understand and accept the primary responsibility is the safety of the pool patrons and enforce all the pool rules. Receive
appropriate training on how to safely handle hazardous chemicals and how to reduce disease transmission from
bloodborne pathogens.
 Ensure patron safety at all times and keep pool area and restrooms clean and clear of debris.
 Maintain filtration system & pool chemistry and record in daily logbook every hour and as required.
 Follow all company/property guidelines pertaining to safety and operations.
 Complete assigned shift(s) from beginning to end, including during inclement weather conditions, unless informed
otherwise by the supervisor.
 Is responsible for reading, understanding, and following the rules and regulations found in the PPM Guard Manual
located in the pool’s logbook.
 Understand that in the event when using any pool-related chemicals while on duty I must wear an apron, gloves, and
goggles. If safety items are not found or available at the worksite location it is the lifeguard’s responsibility to notify the
supervisor.
 Accepts that lifeguard positions will have exposure to chlorine, bromine, and other chemicals necessary for safe pool
operation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES

 Lifeguard positions will be indoors and/or outdoors depending on the worksite. Possible prolonged exposure to direct
sunlight if the worksite is outdoors.
 All participants are required to use PPM timekeeping software with GPS location active via use of smartphone. All clock
in/out location must be on physical pool deck only.
 Report to work no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled shift.
 Always be in lifeguard uniform, have rescue tube with its strap across the chest, carry a hip pack, a whistle, wear sun
protection and sunglasses (if outside). Be ready to protect the people in the water and offer aid when necessary.
 Manage the behavior of patrons and co-workers to prevent unsafe activities.

 Notify patrons of safety hazards (Warn swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforce pool regulations and
water safety policies).
 Have a positive outlook and attitude when enforcing pool rules.
 Respond to emergencies according to the American Red Cross and/or Jeff Ellis training standards; execute rescues and
First Aid including spinal injury management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
 Ensure the pool area is ready for opening and closing each day as required by the property and PPM.
 Manage necessary facility activities and control entry by monitoring the use of pool and guest passes.
 Maintain a clean and safe facility to include the pool deck, restrooms, changing facilities, tiles, skimmers, windows,
guardroom, and trash receptacles. Requirements can vary from site to site.
 Be in an elevated position or lifeguard chair, standing or patrolling at the edge of the pool to see all parts of the assigned
zone, including the bottom of the pool. If not possible to see any area because of glare or obstruction, move the position
to be able to see the entire zone. Before taking the position, and before leaving your area, perform a complete check of
the assigned zone making sure the bottom of the pool is clear.
 No personal cell phones or communication devices are allowed while on duty unless it is duty related. Texting, and
talking on a phone is not permitted.
 Make sound judgement when responding, addressing, and solving concerns and complaints from patrons and property
managers.
 Escalate to supervisors and regional managers for guidance and support regarding facility operations, concerns, and
emergencies.
 Must be able to sit, stand and walk for long periods during work shifts. Must be able to lift and move items up to 25 kg.
 Perform all required duties safely.

LIFEGUARD COURSE

 All candidates must take and pass an American Red Cross or Jeff Ellis & Associates lifeguard training certification,
First Aid, and CPR for the professional rescuer. If the course is not available in the participant’s home country, one will be
provided in the USA depending on availability of classes between May 6th, 2024 – May 22nd, 2024.
 Course length: 2-3 days (Blended learning options may be possible).
 Lifeguards course cost: $234 (The course fee can be paid upfront or deducted from the employees’ paycheck).
 Re-certification cost: $150 (depending on availability) for those whose American Red Cross or Jeff Ellis certifications
are expired and are within time limit for recertification. Recertification availability is not guaranteed.
Course requirements:
o Course requirements will be subject to specific certification requirements between American Red Cross and Jeff
Ellis & Associates Professional Lifeguard Certification.
o Must be able to swim 150 - 300 meters (not timed) using both freestyle and breaststroke (subject to specific
certification).
o Must be able to retrieve a 5-kilogram brick from a 3-meter depth and swim with it above the water approximately
20 meters to the pool edge and climb out of the pool unassisted.
o Must be able to pass the written & skills tests, which are based on the material covered during the course.
 Additional Certifications may be required depending on the county/city regulations in the area of employment. PPM
will assist with obtaining additional certification(s) if required.

UNIFORM

Uniform Cost: $85. The full uniform will include: 2 shirts, shorts, and/or swimsuit, whistle, hat, hip pack, and CPR mask.
Returning PPM lifeguard's uniform cost: $60.

Note: All employees are required to be in full uniform while on duty. The uniform package can be paid upfront or deducted from the
employees’ paycheck.

ARRIVALS

 Candidates should arrive between May 13th – June 15th, 2024.

 The official start date of the season is May 25th, 2024, and the official end date of the season is September 2 nd, 2024.
 Candidates who need the American Red Cross or Jeff Ellis & Associates lifeguard training in the U.S. must arrive
between May 6th, 2024 – May 22nd, 2024, for lifeguard training course. The start date for work is May 25th, 2024.

 Pre-opening training for certified lifeguards will be on May 23 rd and May 24th.

 Roommate requests will be considered if all members of the group arrive together before May 22, 2024. PPM will do
our best to accommodate all reasonable requests. Housing request is not guaranteed and is subject to housing availability,
work locations and lifeguard certifications upon participant arrival date.

 All students must arrive at the PPM office (12339 Carroll Avenue Rockville, MD 20852) between Monday - Friday
(excluding federal holidays) and between the hours of 9AM and 4PM. All arrival dates must be confirmed with PPM 48
hours in advance and approved to be eligible for company airport pick-up. Requests for pick-up must be sent to
[email protected].

 Airport pick-ups are ONLY from Dulles International Airport and will be organized for groups from May 5 th, 2024,
through June 15th, 2024 between the hours of 9 AM and 3 PM Monday - Friday (excluding federal holidays). Students
arriving outside of normal business hours or on weekends are responsible for finding their own lodging and
transportation to the PPM office, Monday – Friday 9 AM – 4 PM.

PAY RATE

 Hourly wage $15.25 per hour (overtime rate not available).


 Returning J1 Participants (Lifeguards) from 2023 Season will earn $15.50 per hour (overtime rate not available).
 Employees are paid bi-weekly and are guaranteed an average of 40 hours per week for the duration of the season (May
25th – September 2nd).
 The average of 40 hours will be for full calendar work weeks (Saturday – Friday) of the regular season and between.
May 25th – August 30th, 2024. The arrival and departure dates can affect the weekly hour average.
 Possible modification of the pool schedule during the first 1-3 weeks and the last 1-2 weeks of the season due to the
U.S. school schedule and peak schedule may temporarily affect the total average of hours per week.
 Premier Pool Management cannot be held responsible if an employee does not meet the season average of hours due to
performance, termination, injury, inclement weather, or natural disaster.
 Please be aware that it may take 2 to 4 weeks to receive your first paycheck.

HOUSING COST, RULES AND REQUIRMENTS

All international students must live in PPM housing while employed by PPM.
PPM operates in Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC. Participant placement for corporate housing is determined by PPM
upon arrival date, roommate request and/or completion of the lifeguard certification course.
As part of the cultural exchange program, employees will live alongside individuals from various countries. All participants in
Premier Pool Management’s shared housing is expected to show respect, understanding, and kindness towards one another.

HOUSING DESCRIPTION
 An average of 5 miles distance from the job site, some locations may be closer/farther.
 5-7 students per 2–3-bedroom apartment with 1-2 bathrooms.
 Apartments are fully furnished to include kitchen appliances such as stoves and refrigerators necessary to prepare meals.
Single bed mattresses with box springs, couch, table, chairs, nightstands, and lamps.
 Students are responsible for pots, pans, silverware, blankets, pillows, shower curtains, toiletries, and any personal usage
items.
 Utilities: water, electric, gas, garbage, amenities, furniture rental, and other fees associated with short-term corporate
leases are paid collectively by each participant within the household under “utilities fee”. Excessive utilities cost may be
deducted from the security deposit.
 Wi-fi is not provided.
 Laundry facilities are located on-site and may require payment (coin or card-operated).

HOUSING COST

 $130 rent + $35 utilities weekly per person (payroll deducted). Students are responsible for the entire week’s rent (week
starts Saturday and ends on Friday) no matter on which date you arrive/leave. All housing agreements will start on the
students’ arrival date and end on September 6th, 2024.

 In exchange for the housing provided, the students agree to pay PPM through bi-weekly payroll deductions. The amount
is based on a weekly rental of $130.00 and weekly utilities of $35.00. The total amount of housing and utility fees will
be calculated based on the beginning and the end of the student’s stay and the number of checks for the season. Each
week starts on Saturday and ends on Friday in correspondence with the PPM payroll cycle. The deduction amount may
vary based on the number of hours that the employee worked in the pay period.

 All students are required to give a 15-day written notice if they resign before the last day of the work contract. If a 15-
day notice is not given, the student is responsible for 15 days of rent after the date he/she leaves the housing. Additionally,
a student who is terminated will be responsible for 15 days of rent after the date of termination or departure from PPM.

 PPM does not guarantee that participants who arrive with boyfriends, girlfriends, family members or friends can live in
the same house or work at the same location.

 PPM does not provide parking for residents or visitors.

RULES OF TENANCY:

 Housing is shared between women and men. Bedrooms are NOT.


 Students are required to maintain the premises in clean and sanitary condition and dispose of all trash, garbage,
and waste in proper containers daily.
 Common/shared areas must be kept clean, and trash removed from premises daily.
 Students must respect a nightly quiet time between 10:00 PM – 8:00 AM. Parties and loud noise are prohibited in
general.
 Smoking is not permitted. Vapes and other tobacco products/devices are not permitted in any PPM housing. Smoking
is prohibited on the entire property including outdoor spaces within the living community.
 Pets of any kind are prohibited.
 Weapons of any kind are prohibited.
 Guests may not stay in the apartment for more than 48 hours.
 ALL students authorize PPM to enter and conduct periodic inspections of the premises.
 Any apartment maintenance needs or questions regarding student housing should be immediately emailed to
[email protected] and reported to the supervisor. Any maintenance issue which could result in damage should
be reported right away, or the household as a group may be held accountable for damages.
 Premier Pool Management Inc. is not responsible for lost, missing, or stolen items inside or outside the student
apartment or at the worksite.
 The student shall not sublease all or any part of the Subleased Premises or assign this Sublease in whole or in part.

Any violation of any of the above policies, or any incident in which the police are called while the STUDENT is present, may
result in the STUDENT being evicted from PPM housing. If the STUDENT ends their employment with PPM (either through
resignation or termination) or if the STUDENT leaves PPM housing prior to the end of the date of this Agreement, the
STUDENT is responsible 1) for any unpaid balance including 15-days rent after departure date 2) will forfeit their security
deposit and is not allowed back into PPM housing. PPM shall collect the remainder of any unpaid balance through payroll
deduction(s) of any unpaid wages or other funds due.

Should PPM incur any expenses for cleaning or damages as a result of the STUDENT’S actions, the STUDENTS agree to
reimburse PPM for these expenses through payroll deduction(s) or the expenses will be taken from the housing security
deposit. Any keys and/or fobs issued to the student must be returned to PPM upon moving out or the cost of replacement will
be charged to the employee via payroll deduction(s) or taken from the housing security deposit. Any and all damages, cleaning,
and repair costs that are incurred with each house will be charged equally between all students who reside in the house.

HOUSING SECURITY DEPOSIT

 Housing Deposit: $300 can be paid upon arrival or payroll deducted. $175 is refundable at the end of the season if the
apartment is left in good condition as determined by the managing company and PPM. Any furniture and belongings
collected by the students during the season should be removed, and the entire apartment should be clean and ready for
property and PPM inspection. Failure to vacate housing and remove personal belongings as scheduled will result in the
loss of the housing deposit.
 The employees must submit their departure information at [email protected] by August 19th, 2024.
 Students are responsible for damages in each apartment as a group. A non-refundable $125 application fee will be used
to cover the cost associated with renting the apartment (examples: application fee, background check, utilities set up fees,
amenity fees, and insurance).

WORK LOCATION ASSIGNMENTS

Participant worksite assignment is available via the sponsor portal. However, PPM may need to change work locations due to
the following reasons: the participant's arrival date, roommate request(s) and/or completion of the lifeguard certification course.
Business needs and work performance may influence worksite assignments and locations. PPM will notify students, sponsors,
and agencies if any changes are required.

PPM TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 I understand that Premier Pool Management Inc. follows an employment-at-will policy, in that I or PPM may terminate
my employment at any time.

 I understand that my job is seasonal, temporary position with no medical benefits, paid vacation/holidays, or sick
days.

 I understand that, if necessary, I may be required to transfer to a different pool other due to performance, business
needs, and/or property management requests. I also understand that I must obtain and maintain lifeguard training,
CPR and first aid certifications, and a pool operator license (if necessary).

 I understand that if during the period that I am responsible for my assigned pool any equipment that is damaged
or any phone charges accumulate at this pool, the costs associated with the repairs and/or the phone charges will be
my responsibility and they may be deducted by PPM from my paycheck.

 I understand that it is my responsibility to find appropriate substitutes to cover my shifts in case I am unable to do so.
The change must be approved by my supervisor.

 I understand that while PPM tries to provide the desired number of weekly hours requested by their employees, the
flow of work is such that PPM is not able to guarantee hours on a consistent basis. PPM will guarantee minimum hours
as required by The Department of State as a host employer with the SWT Program.

 I understand that only approved PPM swim instructors can teach swim lessons at all the pools supervised by
PPM.

 I understand that while on duty I cannot be under the influence of alcohol or any other drugs, and that a random drug
test may be administered.

 I understand that if any questions arise while employed by PPM, it is my responsibility to contact my supervisor and
clarify any such inquiries.

 I understand when I am using the timekeeping app to clock in/out, I need to be on the premises of the pool with my GPS
on my phone active for accuracy and tracking. Failure to do so may result in inaccurate timekeeping, delay my payroll
and lead to disciplinary action up to suspension and including separation of employment.

 I understand that PPM follows the DOL 7-minute rule to round my clock in /out time. In addition, excessive time
before or after my scheduled shift is not approved and can be considered payroll theft unless there is written approval
from my regional manager. Unapproved time will be automatically adjusted to reflect the approved pool lifeguard
hours with or without my knowledge.

 I understand that a violation or failure to comply with any or all of the above-mentioned terms will lead to formal
disciplinary action to include suspension and up to separation of employment.

DAY OFF

Day off requests must be given at least 10 days in advance and approved by the supervisor. No days off are permitted during
Memorial Day Weekend (May 25th – 27th), Independence Day Weekend (July 4th – 8th), Labor Day Weekend (August 31st -
September 2nd), and the employee’s job offer end date. No days off will be allowed after August 10th, 2024, due to the demands
of the business to ensure coverage for the end of the season.

TRANSPORTATION

Most of the pools can be accessed on foot. In some cases, the use of bicycles or public transportation may be necessary.
Each student is responsible for his/her own transportation to and from work. By volunteering to purchase a bicycle for use or
using public transportation the participant is aware and accepts all the risks known and unknown associated with using the
bicycle/public transportation as transportation to and from work.
 Bicycles: Responsibility of participant to purchase.
 Public Transportation cost: On average $17.50 for unlimited weekly use bus pass, and $60 for unlimited weekly use metro
pass. Prices subject to change per Metro Transit Authority in 2024.

END OF SEASON BONUS

Employee must meet the following requirements to receive UP TO $300 end of season bonus:
o Be in good standing with the company based on the managers review and the employee’s write up(s).
o Have worked a minimum of 585 hours throughout the full season (May 25th - September 2nd, 2024).
o Work through and on September 2nd, 2024.
o Work Memorial Day Weekend, Independence Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend.
o Arrive at the PPM office before June 2nd, 2024.
o Late arrivals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

SEVIS & END OF EMPLOYMENT OWED FEES

All summer J1 participants are responsible for registering in SEVIS after arrival as required and do monthly check-ins with
their sponsor. If any participant employment is terminated or a participant leaves the company before the end of their contract,
they will be immediately reported to their designated J1 visa sponsor and agency. In addition to this, he/she is responsible to
cover all unpaid rent, training fees, uniform costs (and any additional items not listed but relevant as owed fees) for the full
season or from the participants arrival date up to 15-days after departure from PPM for housing. These fees will be collected
from any unpaid wages.

FINAL CHECK

All checks issued after an employee departs the United States will be held in PPM office and sent to employee home country
in 2025. Additionally, the student's final check will include the following if applicable 1) end of season bonus 2)
refundable portion of housing deposit.
The student must confirm that the address provided to PPM is accurate and complete and understand that PPM will not be held

responsible for any complications that may be associated with an incorrect address.

PPM ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY

 PHYSICAL ALTERCATION - a confrontation, tussle or physical aggression that may result in injury, including
assault of any kind.
 THREATS - Any statements made to others that involve harm to other people: Verbal, social media (Facebook, Twitter,
etc.), or in Email/Text/Voicemail.
 BULLYING - Intimidating someone in efforts to get them to do what you want.
 SEXUAL ASSAULT - Refers to sexual contact or behavior, often physical, that occurs without the consent of the victim.
 SEXUAL HARASSMENT - Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and verbal or physical harassment
of a sexual nature.
 THEFT - Taking another person's belongings or services without their permission.
 DISCRIMINATION – Discrimination of any kind towards an individual’s gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation,
age, physical or mental disability, national origin, color, religion or otherwise is prohibited.
 UNSUBSTANTIATED CLAIMS – Any claims not supported or proven by evidence against another employee.

Any violation of the above policy will result in disciplinary action and/or the end of PPM employment.
