the new lesson
Everybody, let us pray.
Hello Grade-V! How are today? Are you feeling good? This is teacher Malee your Science teacher.
Monitor, please check the attendance.
How many boys are present?
How many girls are present?
Very good! Everybody is present.
Are you ready for our lesson this morning? Before anything else let me show you the objectives of our lesson.
Now, I want you to know the tips to keep safe and prevent from during COVID 19.
Always bear in your mind the tips to keep safe during Covid 19.
Indicator 1 – Applied knowledge of content within and across curriculum teaching areas
Look at the photos of flowers? Identify the plant from which each flower came from?
*How are the flowers different from one another? Why do you think they have different features?
Very good! (The flowers differ in their shapes or structures, color and scent. These features may help the plants in different ways
depending on how they reproduce.)
*In what way are the flowers similar from one another?
Very good! (The flowers are all used for the reproduction of plants)
C. Presenting
examples/instances of You can see the different types of plants everywhere. They differ in size, shape, color, smell, and even in their mode of reproduction.
the new lesson Like animals, plants need to continuously reproduce themselves. Some reproduce trough their seeds while some utilize other means.
You will learn more about the different ways of plant reproduction. As of today we will take up the sexual reproduction in plants.
Indicator 4 – Established a learner-centered culture by using teaching strategies that respond to their linguistic, cultural, socioeconomic and
religious backgrounds
D. Discussing new
concepts and practicing
new skills #1 Some plants reproduce using their parts like their roots, stems, and leaves. However, there are some plants reproduce by using their accessory part-the
flower.
A complete flower has the following parts: receptacle, sepals, petals, stamens and pistils (carpels)
E. Discussing new Let’s discuss each part.
concepts and practicing
new skills #2 *The receptacle is the enlarged upper end of a flower stalk which bears the flower or group of flowers.
*Sepals are modified leaves which enclose and protect the other parts of a flower when it is still a bud. When the flower blooms,
the sepal supports the bottom of the flower. A group of sepals is called calyx.
*Petals from the most obvious part of a flower. Most petals are brightly colored to attract insects for pollination. A group of petals
called corolla.
*Stamen is the male part of a flower. It consist of the filament and anther. The filament holds the anther in a position tall enough
to release the pollen. The anther consists of two lobes that contain pollen sacs. Pollen sacs have pollen grains that are released
by the anther when they mature.
*The pistil is the female part of a flower. It consists of the stigma, style, and ovary. The style is a stalk that connects the stigma
to the ovary. It is tall enough to trap pollen grains. The stigma is a swollen structure at the end of the style. It receives the pollen
grains. The mature stigma secretes a fluid that stimulates the pollen grains to germinate.
F. Developing mastery Indicator 3 – Applied a range of teaching strategies to develop critical and creative thinking, as well as other higher-order thinking skills
(leads to Formative HOTS:
Assessment 3) Answer the following questions:
1. What do you call flowers that do not have either of the main parts?
Answer: (Flowers that do not have either of the main parts is called an incomplete flower.)
2. Do all flowers have stigma, style, ovary? Why do flowers have male and female parts?
Answer: (The flowers have these reproductive parts so that they can help the plant reproduce
3. How do you think flowers with incomplete parts reproduce?
Answer: (Plants with incomplete flowers cross pollinate with a plant of their same kind that has a female or a male flower.)
4. Differentiate a complete flower from an incomplete flower.
Answer: (A complete flower has a complete set of structures. These structures are receptacle, sepals, petals, stamen and pistil. On the
other hand, an incomplete flower lacks of these structures.)
5. Differentiate a perfect flower from an imperfect flower.
Answer: (A perfect flower has the male (stamen) and the female (pistil) reproductive parts. However, an imperfect flower only has either the
pistil or the stamen alone.)
6. Can a perfect flower be incomplete?
Answer: (No, for a flower to be complete, it needs to have all of the structures including the reproductive and accessory parts. An imperfect
flower does not have both of the reproductive parts. Therefore it cannot be a complete flower.
G. Finding practical Alright let’s have question and answer and these can be useful for us.
