RCS Old Question Papers 3
Note:- 1. IS 456: 2000 Code Book and SP16 charts may be allowed for the Exam.
2. Assume suitable data wherever required.
PART – A
Answer ALL questions 5x2 = 10 M
PART – B
Answer ALL questions 3x10 = 30 M
6. State the assumptions in limit state of collapse in flexure. And also derive the stress block
parameters for singly reinforced section in Limit state method. CO1
(OR)
7. Determine the ultimate moment of resistance of an existing T-beam for the following details.
Effective width of flange – 700 mm CO2
Effective depth of the beam – 400 mm
Width of web – 230 mm
Thickness of flange – 90 mm
Tensile reinforcement - 5 no. 20 mm diameter bars
The materials are M 20 grade concrete and HYSD reinforcement of grade Fe 415 are used.
8. Design a R.C.C. slab for a room measuring 4 m X 6 m size. The slab is simply supported on
all four edges, with corners held down and carries a superimposed load of 3 kN/m2 inclusive
of floor finishes etc. Use M20 grade of concrete and Fe 415 grade of Steel. CO3
(OR)
9. Design a Reinforced concrete rectangular column of size 400 mm X 600 mm to carry an axial
load of 1500 kN and moments 100 kNm & 60 kNm in both the directions. Use M20 Grade of
concrete and Fe 415 grade of Steel. CO4
10. A simply supported 4m span beam of size 300 mm x 550 mm carries a total load of 25
kN/m inclusive of self weight is reinforced with 5 bars of 20 mm diameter with an
effective cover of 50 mm. Assuming a permanent load equal to 50 % of the total load on
the beam, compute the total maximum deflection and check it as per IS code requirements.
Use M 20 grade of concrete and Fe 415 grade of steel. CO5
(OR)
11. Design a dog legged stair case for a building in which the height of the floor is 3 m adopt rise
and tread of each step as 150 mm and 250 mm respectively. The stair hall is 2.8 m x 4.8 m
live load may be taken as 3 kN/m2. The stair is supported on the ends of the landing slab. Use
M 20 grade of concrete and Fe 415 grade of steel. CO5
