Brushless Doubly Fed Reluctance Machine (BDFRM)

The brushless doubly fed reluctance machine (BDFRM) is a type of brushless doubly fed machine that has two stator windings with different pole numbers and a cageless reluctance rotor. The BDFRM can be modeled using the d-q axis reference frame and its voltage and current equations are derived.

Brushless doubly fed reluctance machine (BDFRM)

The brushless doubly fed reluctance machine (BDFRM) is a type of brushless doubly fed
machine that has two stator windings with different pole numbers and a cageless reluctance
rotor D . The BDFRM can be modeled using the d-q axis reference frame, where the d-axis is
aligned with the power winding flux and the q-axis is perpendicular to it. The d-q axis voltage
equations for the power winding (p) and the control winding (s) are given by:

where V and i are the voltages and currents, R is the resistance, lambda is the flux linkage, w is
the angular speed, and the subscripts p,s, d, and g denote the power winding, control winding,
d-axis, and q-axis, respectively. The current equations are obtained by applying KVL to the d-q
axis equivalent circuit of the BDFRM.
The equivalent circuit consists of two sets of series-connected resistances and inductances
representing the power winding and control winding, and a mutual inductance between them
representing the coupling effect of the reluctance rotor .
The d-q axis primary winding current equations for the BDFRM are given by:

The flux linkage equations are obtained by multiplying the inductances by the corresponding
currents. The flux linkage equations for the BDFRM are given by:
