Metropolitan Soup Kitchen, Chicago IL Dec. 2010 Volunteer Led an independent day of service with 10 other students. Swept facilities before food preparation could begin. Served food to homeless youth and families. Facilitated a group discussion around poverty and homelessness in Chicago, which led to the building of a new volunteer program on campus. Little Dreams Kindergarten, Chicago IL May 2009-Sept.2009 Volunteer Worked with children ages 3-5, facilitating play time. Co-created age appropriate games using shapes to engage childrens motor skills. Monitored children to ensure their safety and health. Taught a mini-lesson on cooperation using puppets. Motivated leaders of the kindergarten to institute better training for the early childhood teachers by creating detailed reports about the benefits of better teacher-child relationships. Partnered with a nearby Montessori kindergarten to produce a special day of training for the early childhood teachers, which led to greater co-operation and support between Little Dreams and Chicago Montessori.
