Subject: Importance of Offering a Computer Science Class

Dear reader,

Offering new classes to the school schedule for a more online world will help students
prepare for a digital world. A high school computer science course should be offered to equip
students with essential problem-solving skills, prepare them for a tech-driven workforce, and
foster innovation from a young age.

Firstly, offering a Computer Science course to the list of the school's classes would drive
popularity with a growing number of students interested in STEM-related fields. With a growing
robotics program in our school, the popularity will only continue to rise. Many students are
already taking courses related to computer science for example our computer class with constant
positive feedback from students who take it. “According to a recent College Board report, the
number of girls taking AP Computer Science Principles has skyrocketed to 136%” (“The
Importance of Computer Science for High School Students”) with high growth year after year
with only the girls population of the school shows great interest and will encourage class
participation; With also a rising number of jobs in the community interested in people who have
good computer skills.

In Addition, Computer Science classes can also help students improve their problem-
solving skills by giving them challenges and having them figure out solutions to problems.
Students are not pushed enough in regular classes to figure out a solution to a problem they do
not understand. According to Ellipsis Education, “the students who learned computer
programming were able to show a transfer of learning to other domains outside of computer
science.” Computer science programs have shown that high school students who take STEM
classes have deeper critical thinking as they empower students to grasp complex or abstract ideas
and transform them into beliefs or direct actions.

Finally, When high schoolers dive into coding courses, they’re not just learning a skill:
they’re unlocking a treasure chest of future job possibilities (“The Benefits of Taking Coding
Courses in High School”). It’s like they get a VIP pass to the tech industry's ever-expanding
party. Plus, coding isn’t just about typing on keyboards; it’s a creativity booster (“The Benefits
of Taking Coding Courses in High School”)! It teaches students to look at problems like puzzles,
finding solutions that aren't always straight out of the textbook. They learn to zig when others
zag, which is a game-changer in practically any field they choose to conquer. So, it's not just
code they're cracking; it's the code to a successful and innovative future!

A high school computer science course should be offered to equip students with essential
problem-solving skills, prepare them for a tech-driven workforce, and foster innovation from a
young age. These reasons make it crystal clear why the Bullock Creek School District should
amp up its STEM offerings. By providing more coding and tech-focused classes, they'll be
setting students up for success in a society that's constantly evolving and becoming more

technologically advanced. With these opportunities, students will be equipped with the skills and
mindset needed to thrive in a world that's driven by technology. It's a win-win situation for
everyone involved!

Sincerely,

Griffin Anderson
