REFLECTION PAPER (Arts of Emerging Europe)

The first group's last presentation focused on the arts of Europe's growing continent. I was aware that Europe
is known for having gifted artists, so I anticipated that the discussion would be lengthy and somehow irrelevant to my
interests. However, because of the group's effort and activities, it turned out to be interesting to pay attention to and
understand the lesson because I found out about unfamiliar forms of art that I had only learned from the report.
According to what I understood and what I can still recall, they discussed about the ancient European nations of
Greece and Rome. The team was able to make correlations between each of their parts to help me appreciate European
art in its whole.

I learned about a wide variety of European arts as I listened to the discussants' presentations of the topics they
covered. Greek philosophy, religion, and ideology placed an emphasis on natural order, humanism, and freedom.
These ideas were reflected in Greek art and architecture. While Romans, used realism's guiding principles in most of
their works which bring attention to human traits. Moreover, darkness and ignorance were features of the Middle
Ages, by grotesque visuals and harsh surroundings. Renaissance Art is the great revival of interest in the classical
learning and values of ancient Greece and Rome. Symbolism refers to mannerism. Instead of creating art for everyone,
Mannerist painters would use visual allegories and nuanced meanings to appeal to a narrow, wealthy audience.
Moreover, Baroque art primarily focused on the dramatic and the illusory, using vibrant colors, concealed light
sources, extravagant supplies, and intricate, contrasting surface textures to heighten immediacy and physical pleasure.
While in interior design, the decorative arts, painting, architecture, and sculpture, the Rococo style, sometimes known
as the Late Baroque style, first emerged in Paris in the early 18th century. Furthermore, Neoclassical art is solemn,
emotionless, and noble. The essential qualities of it are restraint and simplicity, as well as accurate description and
close congruence of clear form and noble meaning. Following the French Revolution of 1789, Romanticism evolved
as a reaction to the dissatisfaction with the Enlightenment ideas of reason and order, placing an extreme emphasis on
the imagination and emotion. On the other hand, a work style known as realism emphasizes the precision of elements
that reflects reality. Impressionism's use of color was enhanced by the notion that an object's shadow should be broken
up by swaths of its complimentary hue. Neo-Impressionism on the other hand is a variant of impressionism.
Additionally, an artistic style known as post-Impressionism was born out of both Impressionism's impact and its
opposition. Color, which was often shown with colors such subdued greens, browns, yellows, and blues, was given
less priority in Art Nouveau, as highlighted by the emphasis on linear outlines. While, Fauvist art results in a feeling
of a burst of color using canvas. Moreover, Cubist art stresses the canvas's two-dimensionality. Lastly, Futurism
embodied the vibrancy, energy, and rapid movement of contemporary existence.

The speakers gave us an enormous amount of knowledge, so I draw the conclusion that understanding
European art is essential. In light of this discussion, I believe it's essential to understand the origins in order to truly
enjoy the present. Without the recognition of the past, the arts of today will not be valued. We ought to be appreciative
to them for beginning to create artworks since we have been endowed with the concept of art up until this point.
