1.2 Opening the case
To unlock the housing, insert a small screwdriver in the 2 small holes on the case’s front panel. Next, pull
the front panel to release it from the rear hood; the board connection terminal strips can be simply pulled
free.

Before removing or adding a board, power down the casing (mains and battery power)
and disconnect the phone line.

1.3 Fitting the case

The S500 range cases are designed to be fitted inside an electrical cabinet that serves as a fire shield;
only the S550 and S530 cases can be inserted into the front panel of this cabinet.
Each case has been designed for easy attachment:
z by clipping onto an Omega DIN rail,
z by screwing onto a back plate,
z or by insertion into a cabinet door (see insertion diagram).

1.4 Insertion into a cabinet front panel

The S550 and S530 cases can be attached to the front panel of a box or cabinet door. The S510 case, on
the other hand, must be fitted inside an electrical cabinet.

1) Cut an insertion hole to the following dimensions:

z S550 = 118 x 244 mm,
z S530 = 118 x 168 mm.
2) Open the case and insert the front panel into the slot.
3) Attach the case’s front panel by screwing 4 flanges onto the back of the support, then close the case.

2 Several types of attachment flange are provided depending on the thickness of the door
receiving the case (the thickness is indicated on each flange)

2 Wiring

2.1 Types of cables

Use Cable properties
¾ Input / Output wiring: 9 Twisted multipair cables, do not unpair, cross section
6 or 9/10 with screen or shielding (type "telephone" SYT+).
9 Use one pair per datum.
¾ Power supply: 9 2 conductors with cross sections of 2.5 mm² for Mains and Battery power supplies.
¾ Protections: 9 Cross section: 6 mm² for "Surge Arrester - Earth" connection.
9 At the protection outlet, use a shielded or screened cable.
¾ Earthing: 9 Cross section: 6 mm² to connect the casing's FAST-ON lug to the earth.
9 Cross section: 16 mm² for earthing the remote terminal unit's electrical cabinet.

2.2 Cable paths

9 The Mains lead must be separated from all other circuits from the mains power
outlet.
9 Connect the following to the earth, by the shortest possible path: screens, shields
and unused cable wires, and this only on the metallic enclosure side of the remote
terminal unit. The earthing cable must be connected to the earthing rod, with no right
angles or loops.
9 Group the cables according to data types (one for digital inputs, a second one for
digital outputs, etc.).
9 The "weak current" cables should be separated from power cables (Mains power,
"transmission support" line, etc.).
9 Power cables should cross each other at right angles.

2.3 Protections and earthing

¾ Protections:
9 Use surge arresters with high discharge capacity and low residual voltage, with a
starting voltage adapted to their use.
9 Protect all connections leaving the building.
9 Position the protections as close as possible to the inlet to protect.
9 Separate protected cables (surge arrester outlets), from non-protected cables (surge
arrester inlets) and from the surge arrester’s earthing cable.

¾ Essential earthing
9 Connect the FAST-ON lug to the casing as close as possible to the EARTH.
9 Connect the metal enclosure or DIN rail where the S500 is fixed to the EARTH
9 Earthing resistance: inferior to 5 Ohms (constant properties).
9 Conducting structure equalization should be performed by meshing of earthings,
of metallic conduits arriving at or leaving the site, of metallic cable paths and of
structural steelwork and concrete reinforcements, using high cross section cables
with the shortest possible connections.
