Presentation

S 500 offers a complete range of solutions for the

industrial remote control of technical sites. It
thus leads to reduced operating costs and
enables facility operation to be secured and
optimized.
The S500 range comprises 3 products: S550, S530 and S510.
These Remote terminal units offer the same software features and
possess the same input-output and communication boards; in the

Data and Processing

S 500 can manage up to 1000 distinct data

types.
Time periods
Weekly periods
Data description S500 provides 25 weekly periods for managing time for each
weekday. 4 time bands per day can be defined.
The data processed by the Remote terminal unit can be broken
down into:
 E.g.: for college entrance access control, between 8 AM
and 5 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and
 logical inputs (Start/Stop statuses, faults, thresholds, etc.), Fridays and between 8 AM and 12 PM on
 digital inputs (measurements, counts, calculated reports, Wednesdays.
etc.),
 logical outputs (pump start / stop commands, etc.),
 digital outputs (proportional commands, regulation setpoints,
etc.).

These data are acquired or returned according to 3 methods:

 on the terminal strips of local or remote I/O boards,

 through communication with external devices,

 by internal calculations (process controls, thresholds,

reports, etc.).

Processes
S500 possesses a complete range of user-selectable processes.

Timers
Each logical input can be timed on appearance and/or
disappearance in order to stabilize or delay the integration of an
event.

Inhibitions
The integration of each input and of the major processes can be
inhibited by the presence of a logical datum.

Thresholds Universal periods

The Remote terminal unit manages 25 universal periods that can

Archiving  These time periods can be modified from the

graphical screen and browser.
S500 archives data according to periodical and associated event-
related criteria. These records can be used from the graphical
screen, via the browser and can be transmitted to a Remote Exceptions
terminal unit. 50 exceptions can be configured to describe exceptional phases
during which the periods do not apply.

Automatic calls They can be used to replace a normal period with another
substitution period.
Each logical input can trigger a cycle of automatic calls for:
 alarm reporting to recipients (telephone, SCADA central

 Inter-RTU communications (interconnection of several

sites).

Archiving

S 500 archives data according to periodical and

event-related criteria.
This function is essential in order to perform exhaustive monitoring:
 in the case of centralized remote monitoring and control, data
can also be forwarded to one or more SOFBUS-PL or
LACBUS-RTU compatible SCADA central stations:

 of the evolution of all data,

 of alarms and acknowledgements,
 of communications.

Data recording
The Remote terminal unit records the instantaneous value of each
datum according to user-selectable criteria.
In addition to periodic archiving, a number of different
mechanisms are used to capture all significant values, while
optimizing the historical value storage period:
archiving over variable periods allows the
archiving frequency to be modified according to hourly
conditions or to a datum's status,
 event-based archiving triggers additional data recording on

appearance of an event,
 archival on variation captures any significant data changes.

S500 can store up to 25,000 records.

Alarms log
Archive processing S500 keeps a log of the last 200 events related to alarms. This log
lists all alarm appearances and disappearances,
The values archived by the Remote terminal unit can be processed acknowledgements if applicable and all events related to alarm

This module provides a library of logical and
mathematical, conditions, timers, etc.). Usage principles
Each program is defined by the user in the form of scripts according
to the ST standardized syntax, comprising operands, operators and
statements (IF, THEN, ELSE, etc.).
Calculation formulae The operands may be: Remote terminal unit data, function blocks,
functions, variables or constants.
With SOFTOOLS' "Formulae" utility, it is possible to configure

 to access data (current date and time, etc.),
Thus, S500 is able to trigger automatic actions based on data
 to manage timeouts,
calculated by mathematical formulae. A large number of operators
(arithmetic, mathematical, Boolean, comparison, etc.) are available  to detect 0 to 1 or 1 to 0 transitions,
for use in these formulae.  to calculate thresholds,
 etc.
For each remote terminal unit, up to 50 formulae can be defined.

Dedicated Programs and blocks

In order to meet different use cases, a number of process control
programs and function blocks has been specifically developed (e.g.:
pump switching).
These easy to implement tools are distributed with their
documentation and can be adapted to any S500 configuration.

Serial drivers
The "ST Process control" application also allows the development
of communication protocols with smart sensors, PLCs, or specific
third-party products.

Alarm reporting

S
500 can report alarms from the remotely
monitored site, according to various user-
selectable call scenarios.

Alarm definition
Alarms are generated by changes in logical input status changes.
The following are associated with each alarm:
 a validation used to delay or filter the report
(e.g.: on hourly program, on mains power fault, etc.).
 a sequence or timetable of automatic calls to recipients (on
alarm appearance and/or disappearance).

Reporting parameterization
Recipients
S500 possesses a directory of 20 recipients organized into various
types: Schedules
The automatic call schedules define, on a weekly basis, the

Business applications

S 500 offers, in addition to "universal" Remote

monitoring and control services, a certain
number of functions adapted to more specific trades, Heating and Ventilation Air
thus conferring an additional advantage to Remote
monitoring and control in various fields.
Control
In order to provide complete remote monitoring and control of heating
or air conditioning facilities, S500 can communicate with many major
Waste water brand controllers and power counters.

This function provides the highly reliable management and process Communication with controllers
control of waste water network Lift Stations. S500 is able to manage up to 20 controllers. In this manner it can:

 dedicated MANAGEMENT and ARCHIVING functions:  directly acquire data connected to or calculated by the
controller (temperatures, starting setpoints, etc.) in view of
 number of pump start-ups and operating time performing remote monitoring and control processes (alarm
(hourly, daily, etc.) reporting, recording of historical values, summaries, etc.),
 parallel pump operating time,  remotely modify a controller's operating parameters
 calculation of pumped volume, (scheduled occupation of premises, heating curves, etc.).
 search for parasite waters,
 calculation of average pump flow rate, Communication with heat meters
 search for clogged pumps .
S500 can manage up to 100 heat meters.
 simple to implement PROCESS CONTROL functions It is therefore used:
allowing complete Lift Station automation:  as a "Remote Reading Unit" for one or more power meters,
 pump control and switching (cyclic switching, switching  for the integration of data acquired or calculated by the meter
according to operating time, etc.), (temperature differences, flow rate, volume, energy, power,
 safety mechanisms (backed up start-up, minimum and etc.) in view of performing remote monitoring and control
maximum pump operating time, etc. ), operations (alarm reporting, recording of historical values,
 processing of excessive Lift Station flow (specific pumping summaries, etc.).
cycle),
 resetting of thermal circuit breakers,
 stirrer control.

 Self-monitoring of waste water networks:

 overflow detection (number and duration) and reports of
spills to the natural environment thanks to the use of CSV
sensors (Lift Station overflows for example),
 flow rate assessment via a level measurement sensor

Person identification
The Remote terminal unit is able to manage and control access to
a building (common room, equipment room, tank, treatment station,
etc.).
A Remote terminal unit fitted with (a) DALLAS board(s) can
communicate with one or more badge readers; it is thus able to
identify each entry into a building, manage the presence of agents
authorized to access the site or, if necessary, detect intrusions and
trigger an alarm.
