In many countries, people throw away a lot of food from restaurants and shops.

Why do you think people waste food in this way?

In today's modern society, many people throw away large amounts of food from restaurants and shops for
many different reasons. The main cause of wasting large amounts of food is people's consumption
patterns. People have become more greedy. When dining at a restaurant, they will order as much food as
possible to fill their stomachs. They haven't been able to eat it all yet, so it's not uncommon for leftovers
to end up in the trash. Second, it is the price. Fast food restaurants often offer cheap packages, enticing
customers to buy more. People may only eat a little and then throw it away. The same is true of shops.
They regularly offer attractive discounts on food products, encouraging people to buy more than they can
use. Most of this food will decompose in the home refrigerator, turning into waste that needs to be thrown
away. These are the ways through which a significant amount of food is wasted. Third, that is the quality
of food at restaurants and stores. This is one of the reasons why customers leave leftover food because it
doesn't suit their taste. In short, wasting people's food from those restaurants and shops is unfortunate, we
need to take measures to solve the situation of food waste.

What can be done to reduce the amount of food thrown away?

Overcoming food waste is quite difficult, but there are 3 simplest ways to not waste food. First, create an
eating plan. Planning at least a few meals per week is a great way to ensure everyone has healthy meals. It
also prevents people from buying too much food because they feel the need to be prepared for everything.
Mix up your meals so you're not using completely different ingredients for each recipe. For instance, plan
to eat broccoli as a side dish one night and a casserole the next. Second, take an inventory of the food in
the house. Inventory your pantry, refrigerator, and freezer before going to the store to avoid overbuying.
That helps significantly reduce the amount of leftover food. Third, one of the most effective solutions is
to preserve food properly. Start by buying the food you need for a week and find a way to preserve it. For
instance, store greens with a paper towel in a plastic container in the crisper drawer, store tomatoes and
bananas on the counter, potatoes and onions in a dark place, etc. Have some fruits and vegetables on hand
to freeze in case you run out of fresh produce before the next market day. In short, there are many ways to
overcome food restrictions. Each person will find a suitable way for themselves and need to pay more
attention to not wasting food.
